Re: limiting busses in rock music - digital
The craziest compression thing I ever did was: Route drumkit to a limiter. Route all backing vocals to a different limiter. Route all electric guitars to a different limiter. Route the entire mix to yet another limiter. That said, each limiter was doing only a LITTLE BIT of limiting. Not ever mass ...

limiting busses in rock music - digital
Do you guys tend to limit instrument or vocal busses, like really give 'em a good bit of squash with the 'ole L2 (voxengo elephant or TBbarricade in my case)? I rarely ever do until I hear someone talk about it and then I'll try it, the idea just never comes to me naturally. I don't really have the ...

You guys get the BX opto comp yet?
The one from the advertisement up there (imagine an emoticon pointing upwards and a little to the right). I really liked it on an acoustic guitar project I was mixing, it kinda softened 'em up and opened 'em up at the same time. I recommend it, and it's free for two more days (if you don't mind gett...

I was wondering the same thing a few months ago and almost started this same thread subject. It's kinda sad. I can't complain because I didn't come here for years when I tried to be off the 'net more. I do miss the old days when this was one of the very rare message boards that had just one or two f...

You owe it to yourself to check out the current sale at plugin alliance and also plugindiscounts before the year is up. I just spent a small fortune, but I am giddy about having a bunch of plugins that are ridiculously good and normally way out of my budget, namely the Elysia Mpressor and the SPL P...

We have Waves Mercury, almost every single UAD-2 plugin, the SoundToys bundle, and a handful of random other stuff. That being said, I could very happily mix an entire album with nothing but stock Avid or Logic plugs and the Soundtoys stuff. Well the Soundtoys stuff is a big "AND" I could mix an al...

Recently, I've been having a blast playing with Boz Labs +10db. It's not a Swiss-Army-knife do-everything channel strip, but what it does, it does really, really well. The EQ bands being in parallel rather than in series gives it a sound that I can't replicate with my other plugins. It's only $100 ...

Nice! This sounds like a very usable delay. Tis the season. The mpressor plugin is on sale for $69 for a very short while, and there's an IK t-racks deal going on right now that is very tempting as well. I have found that the ITB recordist is best off saving his money all year for holiday sales and ...

Electro Harmonix 12AY7 Mic Pre EHX
Electro Harmonix 12AY7 mic pre in good condition. With power supply.
I have two and only need one these days. One owner, lots of use without any issues. One has a sticker on it so I chose to sell the one that doesn't. The stock tubes have been replaced. $90 paypal'd and shipped in the lower 48 US.

Thanks for the link. According one poster there, my mA ratings may be double what I thought since I was giving the rating for each side of a balanced cable. This adds to the confusion a bit, because in my three mic test one had its own phantom supply and that one was the highest rated so why did tha...

If you've got a voltmeter you might measure the phantom power from whatever preamp/interface you're using. I've never had a problem with my one M179 (sadly hasn't been used in years, though) but in general the CAD mics seem to need the full 48vdc. In preparation to send one of these mics off to CAD...
