Re: What makes you decide to compress?

I often use lots of compression. Every song and record is a bit different, but there things that tend to happen almost universally. These are general ideas, not a formula or requirement! Tracking Bass is usually compressed, often pretty hard. Vocals usually get two comps in series. BD and SD, often ...

The Fiberskyns are very groovy. I've used the heaviest ones on Toms for a cool rock sound. I like they low mid whoomp of them.

Re: doing work for less than what you charge

I've done a few things for slightly less than my standard rate. That usually isn't a problem, and is usually for repeat customers. I have also done a couple of "super special deals" for friends and they usually bite me in the ass! The "super special" has been officially stopped and will never return.

Re: mixersmixersmixersmixersmixersmixers

I rented a MixWizard to record a live record last January. It sounds pretty good and has direct out on each channel. I brought outboard for the vox, BD and SD, but the rest of the 19 inputs went through the MixWiz. Not a bad little board. Here's a link with MP3s of the first few cuts. Bottle of Just...

Re: ADX90/tiny condensers for drums

I've got both 421s and D2s. I'd been using the D2s quite a bit because I had some guys with things really close and they (along with EV 408/468) fit in tight places nicely. What I have been noticing is that D2 does not extend enough for floor toms. They sound too attack heavy without enough tone for...
