Digital cameras were good for some gear, since some assistants didn't really document the setting correctly when they had to draw a line in a knob graphic. Yeah, most of the time the engineer couldn't get the knob in exactly the same spot from the drawing- or digital- or Polaroid, so instead of rec...

Re: Behringer compressors

i'm good in modding "trough hole" PCB's gear, so i'm planning to mod those comps. And you'll have an easy time of it- except for a few things. On the positive side: Super easy to work with PCBs. Well made and don't fear lifting traces, the boards are way better than that and it'll be nearly impossi...

Re: What are your Recall Methods or Techniques?

Specifically for outboard and non-automated analog consoles - is anybody going "paperless" by just using a digital camera? If so, how does that work and how easy is it to do recalls from? What is your technique? Years ago, those lazy assistants used to use polaroid cameras...not me, everything gets...

I think it's fucking great, I hope it makes it a little harder to steal records or whatever over the Internet. I just released a record (on a label, with decent distribution in stores in 40 countries) and can feel the impact of illegal downloading. For one our shit is everywhere online (illegally) ...

The Chinese goin' legit

Baidu is the Chinese answer to Google. Looks they are now into the fray of 'legal' downloads:

The band/artist is in the room when I make changes.

If not, then they've hired me to make those decisions.

I have no problem keeping it above-board and ethical.

Random rapper of the week called this afternoon at 3:11pm. He's the next biggest thing. A Sierra Leone transplant. He says he already has a record done and is looking for someone to put it out. To which I responded, "Then why are you calling me? This is a recording studio?" Maybe the "Independent R...

I cop for the obvious. Sound on Sound published this list already and Massey is nowhere on it.

I do own many that are however:

This affirms that the audio side of Finale is completely secondary to allowing the user the ability to 'write' sheet music. Well yes. Did you think otherwise? It (and Sibelius) isn't meant to be a performance sequencer, it's a score publisher with playback. I didn't expect anything, the client did!

I suspect this is overwhelmingly the case. This argument shouldn't get all 'beta vs. VHS' or 'tubes vs. solid state'.

These days a full-length album is 10-songs for one reason only, and that is is because iTunes sells over 70% of the music sold in the United States. iTunes also has a price threshold of $9.90 for a full-length album. No will ala carte a 15-song album. If your album has 15 songs on it- that means on ...
