Re: Tips on getting Boy Band style vocals... no, I'm not kid

Good thing you didn't ask this in Mixerman's section of the recpit.... Autotune everything to a flatline. Compress the shit out of the vocals. Chorus and double, and then chorus it again. Do lots of unison vocal parts - different voices, but singing in unison. Triple track the stuff that isn't doubl...

Re: How do you guys store your pedals?

We've got a couple hundred pedals at Tremolo Lounge. I have two pedalboards that I use live, and that stuff stays wired all the time. Some of it is redundant, so if I need to use something on the board for a session, I probably have a backup on the shelf. We have one wall in the studio, floor to cei...

Re: Chorus pedals...

Anyone try out a Boss CEB-2 bass chorus to agree or disagree with me yet?

Re: best mics to a record grand piano?

Which is why I still stand by the Stapes! How much cheaper can you get such great tone?

I also like Audio Technica ATM33a's too. They're great on anything for $140.

PBR? What the ffffff...hell?

I just saw a Pabst Blue Ribbon ad in the new Tape Op. I've noticed in the last year, that PBR has gone from trailer park Perrier to the champagne of punk rock. What gives? I don't drink at all, so i can't even comment on where PBR is on the totem pole of beer, but I'm starting to feel like there is ...

Re: best mics to a record grand piano?

I've used Stapes on pianos as well and I loved them. I put them up against a pair of Steven Paul'ed I believe) C12As and the Stapes still sounded killer.

Not to sound like a salesman, but those things have never ever let me down.

Speaker Switchers

http://www.samsontech.com/products/relatedDocs/C-control.jpg The Samson C-Control. Is this thing any good? Anyone know anything about it? I've been looking for something reasonably priced that will easily allow me to switch between a few sets of speakers. I have them all powered either by themselve...

Re: recording drum machine to tape question (ghost beats)

Are you printing really hot? Maybe it's print-through going onto the layers below it as the tape gets spooled.

Maybe?

Re: Electro Harmonix Black Finger

their pedals are all cool for something. I'm a big fan of E-H. I was just expecting the Black Finger to have more character, and it didn't. The Big Muff rules (I'm taking a break from building a clone right now!) and the new Hot Tubes is a major pedal. The Microsynths are great. The Electric Mistres...

Re: Electro Harmonix Black Finger

It's a totally different circuit than the original. Much like the new Hot Tubes has NOTHING to do with the original....which they SHOULD reissue.

Re: Electro Harmonix Black Finger

I tried it on guitar in the store. I didn't like it at all. It is NOT an LA2A in a pedal. It's way more on the polite side of compression. It didn't do the squishy dynacomp thing very well. I thought it sounded okay, but it wouldn't make me not grab for a dynacomp.

Re: Auto Tune on fretless bass?

I've used it on fretless and poorly intonated fretted bass. I've used it on strings (cello), and I've used it to fix a couple of band bends in guitar solos.

Re: RNC settings

J., you're kidding right?

I never liked them at first, and then somehow I figured out what it sounded good on, and then I started working with it more and more and now I can pretty much wrangle anything out of that box. Vocals....drum buss...2-buss.... I'm a fan.
