I would say definetly a dynamic since proximity is key in capturing the sound of beatboxing, Rahzel who used to play with the Roots used a 57 when I saw them live, maybe this sounds crazy but what about trying a few dynamic mics pretty close together and using one to isolate bass drum type frequenci...

i'm constantly chasing a dry drum tone myself (Rumors or Harvest type tone) this is what has worked for me. + 1 on the moongels these things are great or if you want to save some cash, get some of those sticky hand things from a vending machine, you can usually find these at grocery stores. I've als...

I have the Tascam DR-1 I love it because I travel a ton and you can charge it through the USB port on your computer, and you can pull stuff off or put stuff on just like a hard drive. It sounds pretty cool, used it yesterday to get some church bells.

congrats those amps are crazy, I used one on a session a while back and still found it to be a rather clean amp, you had to get the volume up pretty high to get it to really break up so you definetly shouldn't be getting that fuzziness that you speak of at lower cleaner volumes, its definetly not a ...

Buy A Reamp Box!!! I would say one of these is pretty crucial to corectly capturing the guitar sounds on a mainstream metal record, the beauty of this is you only need to have the guitarists put down one solid take of the song and then you can reamp and tone tweak to your hearts content. Also you wo...

The studio is a studio- not a guitar shop. If they want to use the amps, they rent the amps. Pretty simple. If I am only engineering a record I'll record whatever 'piece-o' the band brings in. If the band are paying a project rate for an album production, then they get to use the amps sans rental f...

Soundproofing Your PC tower

What is the best way to do this, i'm curious to hear from people who have actually done this. I've looked into sound proof iso boxes but I hear that your computer can catch fire if not properly ventilated and most of the ones that are not DIY are very expensive, i've also seen pads that mount to the...
