install drumagog, layer various 808 samples use one to get the tight attact (i/e squash the crap out of it till it pumps with your favorite comp and roll out a lot of the low frequency below where you get your punchiness) use the other for the boominess (high pass filter and light compression), blen...

I think lo-fi works well for some bands and not so well for others and its as simple as that....and i'm talking about on an overall level as opposed to a production technique sort of level....every band and their brother have at one point on a recording done something kind of "Lo-fiish" in one of th...

i'm constantly fascinated by the mixes on the following records, its an odd thing for me as i'm a singer/songwriter first and engineer second but I always feel as though i'm trying to blow my songs out of the park when I get into the real studio, so I've really been studying the records I love to tr...

Getting sounds in headphones

My studio is setup with everything in the same room so i'm forced to get my sounds in headphones, I'm wondering if anyone can reccomend a good set of headphones with pretty flat frequency response and possibly noise cancelling as well for when tracking drums.

I just don't think Ian was that good of a singer overall, as cool as he was I don't think they were neccesarily going for off pitch vocals.

I just bought a Tascam DR-1 portable recorder

this thing is super cool and fun yet at the same time its made me a little bummed out, I get the most beautiful balanced acoustic guitar tone recording into this little thing far more amazing than anything I've been able to produce in my studio, I may start tracking into this thing and then flying i...

I highly highly reccomend the Carl Martin Plexitone, I use this on tour and its the best overdrive pedal I've ever used, blows any tubescreamer out of the water.

The Reactible Synth? (video link inside)

this shit is just pure ridiculous, apparently there are only two of these made right now and Bjork has one of them.

i've done side by side comparisons of the sputnik and mxl, i love the sputnik...I think the top end is way clearer on the sputnik and overall the tone of this mic is just sweeter than the mxl.

i'm a full on advocate for the firepod and I'm sure that is not the problem, the firepod is cheap, efficient and easy to use, its not an apogee but it gets the sound in and is way cheaper. if you want supersize your tracks in an affordable way I would say definetly get some outboard pres,a lot of pe...

+ 1 on the sytek, I saw one on ebay recently for $775.00 shipped so you can find them cheaper if money is an issue. I love this thing, I opted for the burr browns in channels 3 and 4 which I really only seem to like on vocals but its worht it just for that. I run Nuendo using a firepod and I definet...

I need to vent (maybe you do to?)

So I started working on this 70's type rock project with some friends, we wrote three songs so i figured I'd throw up some mics and lay down the scratch tracks. I had a really awesome guitar tone going on, Les Paul into a Fender Deluxe with the EHX Germanium OD with voltage around 7 o clock, had a c...
