1. Vintage Coated ambassador heads on everything (the vintage models are nice and a little thicker than the standards)

2. Remove the bottom tom heads.

3. gaff tape under your cymbals, deadens them a little bit

4. Moongels deadening rings or whatever just muffles a bit.

I tour with the band Gym Class Heroes for a living so hopefully I can shine some band perspective on this. 1. Most touring musicians are inherently lazy and not that into soundchecking, they see it as time to fuck off and play nonsense. DO NOT allow the band onstage until you are actually ready for ...

i've always been curious about using an outboard clock its just not really in my budget. The digital hardware end of recording has never been a real point of interest for me, there are so many more fun things to spend my meager studio budget on, I bought a firepod and have never looked back.

There are pretty valid arguements made for both sides of this. There is definetly a signifigant amount of materialism and ridiculousness going on in the gear department, most of the items in a studio setup perform simple processes and many people (inluding myself at times) tend to overemphasize ther...

do you really feel as though you wll be saving a ton of money. I just got into building pedals recently and decided to build a clone of the original MXR Dist. the kit was around $80.00 and i'm pretty sure you can buy the pedal new for about $100.00, the savings are cool but the headaches and stress ...

hey man, I have the firepod as well, I don't feel as though when your recording you should have to touch the mixer knob at all unless of course your computer is total shit and your having latency issues while monitoring your recording take. When the mixer knob is all the way to the right you should ...

Fender Jaguar Bass

Has anyone had any expierience with these? I'm thinking of getting one for my own personal studio recordings and i'm wondering how they fair against the barrage of somewhat "nicer" mexican Jazz and P Basses Fender is putting out now, I don't have the money to go american and this seems like a nice o...

drum overheads SDC's or Ribbons

I just bought (with the reccomenedation of some fine folks from this board) a beautiful 1970 Ludwig blue green badge drum kit in Marine pearl and this will basically be my first time recording real drums in my home studio. I'm about to purchase some mics but I was wondering if anyone could give me s...

thanks to everyone this info is amazing, I'm actually gonna have the kit built by a custom company called SJC that the drummer from my band has an endorsement by, so if anyone could give me any input as to good dimensions, wood types, lug patterns that would be extremely appreciated.

Alt Country Drum Sound

so i'm about to custom build a drumkit for my studio and I was interested in hearing from engineers as well as drummers. The sound I will mainly be going for is very "thick and "dead" (those are the best ways I can describe it). I know a good amount of this sound will more than likely come from prop...

that boss thing is fucking awesome. I had one a while back and you can totally do your own girl like backing vocals and it sounds semi believable. I think they made a plug in version of it as well.
