I also own a Focusrite Twin Track, and yes it is very clear and very smooth. My issues with it are as follows: 1. Only about 40db of useful gain. Don't hit the top you'll hate yourself for it. 2. Cheap Construction. (This may have been why they can offer this unit at the price they do.) In a year o...

Mid price range stuff.. (focusrite, etc)
We always talk about really nice expensive gear, and cheap gear that works well, but things in the middle seem to go unnoticed. I was trying new things today. I found a new passion for something I've had and never realized what it was capable of. I own a Focusrite Twin Track, I've never been proud o...

I posted this under the similar thread in Computer World, but figured this one is getting more attention, so here ya go: I personally don't like T-Racks. I've used it for giving things that digital tube sound - if that makes sense, it certainly has it's place. I use iZotope Ozone 3. It's $200 from m...

Re: I just dont understand the hype..
No offense meant, but it sounds like either you are doing something wrong or your 58s need to be replaced. The 58 didn't become "the standard" because of the qualities you listed - I certainly wouldn't characterize it as "dull"... jt Are we talking about the same mic? I guess I could turn blue in t...

Mike, on your pro vla I'd recommend rolling in a pair of JAN Philips 12AT7WC's. They should make a world of difference over the stock, russian made, EHX tubes that come with it. There's a little mojo in there with the JAN Philips tubes. Hmm.. It's worth a shot, thanks Kenny.. Is it worth the extra ...

I used to run sound at a club and I would bring my Audix OM5 and OM6 for vocals just because the SM58's at the club were so dull and would feedback. Granted, it was a small stage and placement could have been better, but they'll never learn to keep their faces out of the monitors and quit cupping th...

I just dont understand the hype..
Things I don't get: SM58 - yeah, I get the 57, but the 58 just doesn't do any justice for anything - not even live vocals, still it seems to be the 'industry standard'. It has no feedback rejection, it makes everything dull and lifeless. Grrr!!What am I missing here? Pro VLA - I own it, and I use it...

I personally don't like T-Racks. I've used it for giving things that digital tube sound - if that makes sense, it certainly has it's place. I use iZotope Ozone 3. It's $200 from most pro audio dealers or $250 from the web. You can download a fully functional trial version from their website. http://...

throw a SDC or a PZM in there - or just boost the hell out of the top end. Use your pre with the fastest transient response (I use my sytek's). I put a fast, tight gate on them and then squeez 'em quit a bit with my 160's. I pretty much mix everything else first, then bring in the kick until I can d...

I'm sure it does alter the pickup, probably makes it more of a hyper cardioid mic, I dunno, but whaever it does it still sounds better than the alternative. I used to do live sound, it took me forever one day to figure out what in the hell that rattling was. It's been ever since that I haven't owned...
