I agree. I'd love to hear the audio version of that interview.

I think it is true that the GJ setup is "not a true stereo mic technique". I'm sure when it was first used, the drums were mixed to mono. For instance, the Beatles rooftop concert appeared to use the GJ setup, and I believe all the drum mics were mixed down to one track on that. I think it does soun...

Don't the home hi-fi units output a blend of the wet and dry signal? Is there a way to get a 100% wet signal out of them? If not, how do you work around it? I have a Sansui RA-500 (the one with pretty lights), and one way to get a wet-only signal out of it is to put an input on the left channel and...

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the control voltage out of the keyboard to see if the voltages change as you press different keys. I believe those old PAIAs have linear scaling as opposed to 1v/oct scaling. So the voltage doubles for every octave (for instance C1-1v, C2=2v, C3=4v, C4=8v etc.....

I think the way it works is that the audio signals are the 1/8" phone jacks, and control signals are banana jacks (black is input, red output). I think the reason you're getting the clacking sound is because you're patched into the output of the LFO. So the first thing I would do is plug a 1/8" cabl...

ya reaper is also very cool...super efficient and tightly coded and very simple interface. however, I've read many times that Sawstudio is considered to be the best sounding and demands the least amount of resources...i.e. users testify that they have tried to bog sawstudio out with 20+ vsts but co...

Fuzz with lot of delay and/or reverb. Also, backwards guitar is always good for that "bad trip" sound.

Do those decks run slow enough for the an 8 track cartridge? I don't know what speed they run, but R8's and stuff run at 15 ips don't they? I know that old 8 track tapes can't run that fast. That's definitely true but you could speed correct after the fact on computer. But you raise a great point. ...

Yes, search the archives for THD Hotplate or Weber mini mass and you'll find attenuators have been discussed a lot here. Often, the better solution is to use a smaller, lower wattage amp. But guitar players don't like to hear that.

You said the current was .75, is that in amps or milliamps? If it's amps, you're drawing more than the rating for the power supply. And also, that's WAY too much current for a fuzz face. A lot of fuzz faces have a positive ground, which could cause problems, especially if you're trying to power othe...

I have the weber MiniMass and I think it's great. It's one of the ones that has the actual speaker motor as a load so it probably sounds better than the units that are resistor-load only. I think it probably took about a week to get mine. I think the deal with Weber is that they don't always have e...

I tried the weber one and thought it sounded terrible. I was a lot lower priced as well. Which one of the Weber's did you try? And what about it did you not like? Did you ever try it out at a gig or were you using it mostly for bedroom level recording? Were you able to return the Weber? How long di...

In your situation (recording a lot of different acoustic instruments), I think I would go for a condenser mic over a dynamic. Also, a multi-pattern would be nice, since that would give you more flexibility. I have a 414 BULS that I've used for almost 20 years, and I'd say that it sounds good on almo...
