Re: The John Kerry Band!

I saw that on CNN this am. Remember, Tony Blair was a rocker too. And, of course, Bill Clinton and his sax.

Re: G

PT's method described a few posts up is far and away the best method I've ever tried. I got it off GuitarGai's site. I never have trouble with G's(that's just me) and I refuse to use heavier than a 16, and sometimes use a 15, unwound. Alot has to do, I find, with nut height, and fret height, and how...

Re: Carvin compressors

I'd definitely go for the RNC. If you're using it in an insert situation,(correct me if I'm wrong here) that's a default unbalanced setup anyway. In tracking, it's different, but, as long as you're using short, good, cable runs, you'll probably be fine there too. Of course, you could hit the comp be...

Re: OT:drum sticks.

Try a pair of Steve Gadd by Vic Firth. I think they are awesome. My cousin turned me on to them, gave me an old beat up pair, and I play with those more than anything else. Great feel. Around 5A, I think,,maybe 5B, but, super weight, feel and balance. Painted wood(a black color) with little round wo...

Re: Recommend me a guitar tuner plz

The inline stage tuners, mentioned above, I don't have much experience with, but they work pretty well, from what little I know. The Petersen, if you can afford it is real nice for tweaking intonation, etc. I use a Sabine STX1500. I like it. It's neat feature is that is can be easily recalibrated to...

Would this 12 step program allow each participant to obtain a new mike at every step? I'm in.!!! Oh boy! 12 new mikes!!! :D

Misguidedly,

Re: Speaker Help.

Are they supposed to be powered speakers? Is your mixer powered? Does there need to be a power amp somewhere in this chain? Sorry,,don't mean to be insulting the intelligence/obvious, as it were.

Great story Joel. I'll learn from it. Thanks for sharing. Um, I wish I had a tape machine to screw up with. :?

Re: Electric Bass Preamps

The SansAmp Bass Driver DI sees alot use in these parts, according to previous threads. I think. I have one and think it works pretty well. I run mine into a preamp, like a TrakMaster, or the DBX376, then into the recorder. It works well into Joemeek units, too. The Avalon U5 DI is also raved about....

Re: mixersmixersmixersmixersmixersmixers

I have the Spirit M12, and I like it. I cannot speak comparatively, since I've never used anything else, cept the digital mixer in my Tascam 788. The last 4 stereo can be used mono with left input only. They don't have inserts, like the first 12, and there's no mid control, but that's not a real pro...

Re: MOTU 828 annoyance

I have the old style first release 828. I have my monitors running off the analog mixer monitor outs, so as to hear the mix with the mix buss comp in the main r/l inserts of the analog mixer. I take the main outs of the mixer into the 828, and use its converters to do the two track mix, which I know...

Re: Students - need suggestions on Theory and Composition Te

Walter Piston's Hormony is hard to beat. Also, the Berklee books by Bennett(sp) for guitar are good. Reading through books on Irish and otherwise traditional fiddle music are real instructive. You meet it in practice, what certain genres tend to do. etc. Ruckert's The Classical Music of North India ...

Re: Interesting Steve Albini "lecture"

I was following him about the longevity, as it were, of tape, as compared to digital, with regard to file storage, but that started me wondering. Wasn't it in the Jim Dickinson(maybe not) interview, where he said, as soon as you make that tape, grab it on digital before the highs and lows on the tap...

Re: Interesting Steve Albini "lecture"

That was very good. Very enjoyable. Thank you. I wish he had addressed the thesis of digital/analog to a finer point. Does he mean, in the box? digital? What about us hybrid users who have a digital recorder, but mix analog??? I'd surely like to have 2 inch 16 track, but that's not to be had so easi...

Re: Order of Recording?

When I record traditional music, this is a little backwards, but it works. On a fiddle piece, I'll record the fiddle first, then come back with the other stuff, guitars, bass, banjo, etc. This is with myself doing the playing. Often I'll use a click track that I'll later mute, or record over. Especi...
