Larry Crane a Teacher?
Hey everyone, I've decided to enter the world of unaccredited teaching. If this course sounds appealing drop me a line. I think it will be really fun, and very one-on-one. Larry Crane Jackpot! Recording Studio, Inc. ?Weekend Recording Workshop? Larry Crane, editor and founder of Tape Op Magazine and...

Re: The Tapeop Trend
People are dumb because they aren't smart. Doesn't everyone know that? Oh yeah, some may be too dumb.

Re: Fighting, flattering, failing
it's great for the musicians to have some knowledge of the recording process - I don't find many people who come in thinking they can't do overdubs or that the songs have to be recorded in album order any more. I like educating folks too, and I'm patient as hell with folks. It's just those 1% who ha...

Re: favorite drum kits?
Allegra here in Portland are truly awesome sounding, and I'll bet most major cities have a few folks that buidl custom drums that kick ass like this. It sure helps when the guy from the drum shop brings the kit down, sets up and tunes them. Makes my job easy...

Wait, oh shit I posted on this and I'm furthering the disease. I was just stopping to look really, as the hard drive question was already answered. Damn, I'll stop clogging the board and get out of the way!

Re: Fighting, flattering, failing
Yes, but offering deals to great clients can be a good thing! But I can't believe someone would blame the cable for the session, sounds like a Mixerman story. I know this is almost rude, but when people start trying to sabotage their own session I'll start using bigger words and tech speak (real one...

Re: Fighting, flattering, failing
You know, there's that thing where they come in to do a session and right away start questioning how you're going to do stuff you haven't even started doing. I get on edge and start to worry that the people know more than me or that I'm fucking up royal and not realy hearing how shitty an engineer I...

Re: the greed that is the beatles
I do believe that long-time Beatle assistant Neil Aspinal heads Apple Corp these days, though I'm sure the people that make these sorts of decisions are lawyers. Most times a lawsuit such as this is entered as a formality in order for corporations to protect their interests. I'll bet it gets settled...

Re: Any advice on Tascam 8-tracks?
I would steer anyone away from the Tascam 38 after many years of watching one limp through sessions. Mine finally ended up unrepairable... at least in this town.

Re: Is Jrf and MRL the same company?
First, MRL is Magnetic Reference Labs in Ca who make analog test tapes. JRF is John french's company back east and the do head relapping and build headstacks. Both companies are reputable and great people who will help you out. And I say that even though they don't buy ads with us! 185 nWb/m is 0 dB...

Re: MP3 & the TapeOp mindset
I know a lot of folks that own and run "indie" record lables. Not one has ever expressed a problem with people trading MP3s. I have been ripping MP3s into my iBook for personal use. I have also bought songs on iTunes. I also went searching on Limewire for rare stuff I can't even find in record store...

Re: Mac OS X recordists speak up!
I entered into Pro Tools land recently so I went right into OSX and PT6. We've had a lot of problems with the I/O settings, specifically getting the S/PDIF and ADAT stuff to work. Hint: Set the hardware how you want and quit and restart PT6. It pissed me off that I had less trouble with I/O running ...
