I don't think laptops are the ideal DAW platform. I have a MBP but I'm currently saving my pennies to build a Hackintosh tower.

Fan noise in the MBP is the deal-breaker.

Plus the expansion options just aren't there.

Consider the Chameleon Labs 7720. Its pretty much a well built GSSL. Used they are like $300-$350. Sweetwater has them for 5 bills now on "sale". I'm in the market, too. Been using a Pro VLA II on stereo bus and it's got a smooth sound but I'm finding bass and kick makes it pump too much for 2bus use.

That's why I'm looking hard at the Chameleon Labs 7702. Clean VCA stereo comp in 1ru with sidechain and HPF built-in.

Bump for a nice piece of affordable gear. I just got one after doing a fair bit of research. This is probably the most highly regarded of the bunch. Front panel Norm/HN/Thru switches are handy.

Super cool! I did "tubby" and "harsh". The system (and operator) nailed harsh and we got pretty close with tubby.

I'm flying pretty blind here, but the fact that your computer won't list any firewire devices makes me thing the problem is ITB, so to speak.

Try repairing permissions in disk utility and then reboot, making sure the board is connected and turned on.
