Phosphorescent records live, in-studio freqControl session

Come check out the live, in-studio freqControl Session with Brooklyn band Phosphorescent. This session was recorded over the course of about 6 hours, no punches, no edits. Just real bands playing real music. During this session, band leader Matthew Houck was personally invited by Willie Nelson to pl...

I don't think i have ever paid attention enough to notice pitch inconsistencies - but I have definitely noticed the sync problems that exist, especially on USA. So I would not be surprised about the pitch issues. Frustrating!

Agreed on the -3 if you want the +6 alignment (if your MRL is 250nwb). Also, I was always taught to bias before record alignment - because it is an intrinsic part of the record alignment. You want to make sure that is straight before you get to your mid/high. Also remember that each type of tape and...

+1 on the Copperfone. Also, if using a grand, placing a SDC (with a pad) in one of the holes on the soundboard can sound really punchy and crisp. You have to check out the different holes to see which one sounds best. On our piano, we usually go with the hole 3rd back from the hammers. This blended ...

As CGARGES said, if someone showed up with two sets of data, it would be a blessing. Either that, or someone who has figured out how they want the tracks submixed, and then bounced those sub mixes, and hidden the original tracks in the same session for tweaking, if need be. Taking the time to make s...

Serato is pretty amazing - and the free trial may get you through the session you are working on. Quite expensive to buy once you are hooked...

I have used it for fairly subtle changes (as stated above - 5bpm is cool) but have heard artifacts/degradation at 10+ bpm.

So awesome to hear when people "go for it" and it works. Congratulations! I often tell the interns we have working at my studio that they all have the ability to "do it," but that it takes a bit more elbow grease than they may have been told in the various programs they attended. I am sending them a...

At Headgear, we have interns of all ages. Some of them are from the recording programs here in NYC, some are artists who want to know more about the process the next time they get into the studio. One intern, who was 30 when she started, has since become our paid studio manager. I can't speak highly...

I find myself wishing I had a better headphone distro system. When I bought the furman I currently use, it was $550 for brain and 4 boxes. The next step up is over $3000! Ugh.

But man, it would be awesome to have a few more inputs...and a little less "can I get more...."

Many low cost interfaces for the computer offer spdif input. Even the original mbox did, if I recall correctly. A midi box can be had cheap as well. Sounds like you are not lookingto upgrade to that type rig - so why not bounce submixes within you Akai box when you reach 14, and then continue record...

I was going to post almost the same question, so let me add to it: What's the better method? Tracking to tape and then transferring to digital for mixing, etc, or tracking to digital and mixing down to tape? Also, what are people's ideas as far as ips and things like that? Is 15 ips on a tape machi...
