Re: rotating speaker alternative

Obviously the first version did something interesting to make you make V2. So what was the sound like, in general and compared to a Leslie? So thinking about it more, I guess it would have sounded like a frequency-dependent tremolo. Lows would go around the baffle, highs would fade up and down. The...

Those old Califones were beasts!
Yeah, I kind of wish I'd saved it, but... small apartment. I'd be happier to get my Yamaha CS-05 back, though.

Didn't Alex Lifeson still use amps? I thought it was just Geddy's side with the rotisserie or laundry machines.
At some point Alex even went IEM, and had some steampunk styled "amps" which might have still contained a speaker or two.

I don't entirely remember, I lived in a small apartment and couldn't keep it around. It definitely wasn't a Leslie, because it didn't have separate rotors for ...

Re: rotating speaker alternative

I did a thing a few years ago with a turntable between the speaker and the mic. On the turntable was a flat wall, so that as the turntable spun it would be blocking or not. Later I made more of a baffle, like a bundle of square wooden tubes. You could put multiple mics around it for stereo and beyon...

I think you can just buy cheap HDMI splitters on eBay.

True, HDMI is a locked-down consumer format which isn't supposed to splittable, but people I know in the live event business do it anyway.

A lot of the real pro folks around here have gone with the Kemper thing, aside from maybe one or two boutique pedals.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

oh, and these are much smaller than a 421, they have a built-in mic mount and if you accidentally bump the mic, it doesn't just fall off the mount (IYKYK). You don't know about the safety pin trick with 421's? If you thread a safety pin (or a paper clip, or a bit of old guitar string) under the cli...

Almost bought this at a thrift store today - an official Blue Man Group fun keyboard.

Ended up just buying some faux-woodgrain bookends, because that's what I actually need.

Re: Watch out for this new scam (eBay or other)

eBay is fine place to buy little electronic bits from China (LED strips and such), but I don't think I'd buy anything big these days.

Re: Happy Black Friday! Did you get anything?

Don't recall if it was on Friday, but I bought a biography of Merle Travis that was recently published by Deke Dickerson - just showed up!

Other that, just groceries and maybe a cup of coffee and lunch on Saturday.

Seriously. I got enough stuff, and I keep building more.

Re: I bought a CD!

Can't remember, but I usually try to buy CD's at shows. Trouble is I'm not going to shows all that much either. Just recently bought a download album from Deke Dickerson, coulda bought the CD to be shipped with the book I also bought, but I wanted the quick access. Next day I was listening to it in ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

The Onyx series really was underrated - we've had people* request them for live recording, just using the inputs to feet those DSub outputs. Parts are getting maybe a little hard to find, they used these weird SIP (single inline package) op-amps in a few spots and those occasionally burn out. *real ...

Re: Reco me some loud cans

Second the recommendation for IEM's. Protect your hearing, don't play with super loud headphones to get over drum leakage!
