A couple of weeks ago I scored some drum gear. For $25, I got four Gibraltar multi-clamps for my rack, a 20" AA Medium Ride (going to be trading in for more Saludas), and a POS snare drum (pulling the muffler and snare release off to replace broken parts on one of my other snares).

I've tried to design something thats really easy and practical to use in the studio, thus the phantom power and balanced output. no batteries to fuss with and a mic stand mount. Yes, I like the way yours is so clean, though you still kept the bit that reminds you of where it came from. I think I wi...

I made something like that many years ago. Though, my version wasn't as pretty. All I did was take an old phone receiver, open it up, and splice the wires from the mic into a chord from an old set of headphones. There may have been a 9v battery involved, I don't remember. I used a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter...

I think what is obvious is that bands/artists really need to get out and tour. I have friends with CD books filled with burned CDs, though they attend nearly every single live show from their favorite bands when they come to town, and sometimes will travel away from home to see them (sometimes for a...

If you're mixing in Pro Tools, why not record in PT as well? You don't have to use all of its features. Seems like you are making this complicated for yourself.

In other words, you're cheating. Writing music without a computer? What is this, 1967? Aha! In other words, Sonar for recording- my brain for fumbling around with little scraps. I have a bunch of little unfinished ideas laying around. Eventually I'll probably just turn them into ring tones or somet...

I'm curious -- How do you brainstorm song structure in Sonar, other than in traditional musician ways? I don't *need* Live to write music, but what appeals is having, say, two totally different bridge ideas (as two scenes in Session View) and being able to hear either one after the chorus (another ...

I took a quick peek at the Presonus website and found out the Firebox does have zero-latency hardware monitoring- which is what the software mixer is for. I never really thought of monitoring in that way when I overdub. I never noticed any lag at all (unlike working with the Soundblaster cards years...

How do I do a loopback test? Is this simply running a track out of one of my outs, maybe through an outboard fx or something, then back in to the mix? If so, I did this recently with a DI bass track. I had recorded a clean DI and an amp'd DI from my Bass PodXT. I didn't like the amp'd sound, so I se...

I should explain that I'm a singer/songwriter type and I build songs in my bedroom studio. I only really need two inputs at once, thus the Mini... I'm a singer/songwriter as well. Presonus makes a less featured interface for under $200 if you want to check it out (not sure if you are really looking...

That's a good question. When I drum, I tend to turn my head so that my right ear faces the majority of the kit. When I talk on the phone, I mainly use my right ear. Other than being exposed to loud music, and drumming, I can only think of one thing that may have caused this effect in my left ear. Wh...

I get 2ms latency with my Firebox. If it matters, I'm currently using Sonar 7 (yay!), but there was no latency difference in v4 from which I upgraded. I get low latency in Reason as well. I don't think it matters what software I use since this setting is set internal to the Firebox. I'm only using 4...

When I check Craigslist the main thing I am looking for are used pianos. I see many grands and baby grands go for much less than they are new. I am mainly looking for an upright someone is in desperate need of moving out. They are pretty frequent on that list. Some ask for under $500, some are free....

Gotta admit, though, that Live is just so damn convenient for brainstorming with a half-finished song. I wish Sonar would steal their track-scene-clip paradigm. That's actually the main thing I didn't like about Live. I don't like having to flip back and forth between views to get an arrangement go...

It seems once you have a child, your child steals all the thunder in the gift department. It's cool. It's just a funny observation. Very true. I've been having lots of fun playing with my kids and their new toys though. There is this race track with cars you shake, then set down and they fly around...
