nearly everything I own is a cheap find! My Moog Opus 3 with road case ($180) and the Jen-1001 for $100 are some of the most used finds. Not so many treasures around anymore. Back in the 90's I had a pal who worked at the Pawn and would ask me "how much do you want to pay"... got some screaming deal...

I got a mid 80's MIJ Custom a couple of years ago, cheap. $250 It's a great guitar. My other Tele is also a MIJ standard... without the string thru the body. It's a nice one too. That one fell off the wall at the shop, so the owner let me have it for $125 or something. That one is a maple neck, the ...

A follow up on my upgrade. The new box is working like a champ. It took me a week, in three stages to get the job done. I had my system moved over and running in a day. A few days later OX 10.4 showed up and installed with no issues. I only needed to download new drivers from my MOTU gear. I just h...

On the Roy Loney album I recently completed, a couple of the songs cried out for some non-standard mix idea. One clearly wanted to be mono, so it is. Another just sounded "ordinary" when I mixed in a modern style, with the bass and drums in the center. It sort of stepped on the the vocals. It was so...

I've been working on my "last of the G4" for three years or so. Lately I decided to move up to a G5. I like to stay one step behind the cutting edge. It finally became a necessity, as the old original iMac in the office had become sort of useless and cranky. I figured I could move the G4 up to the o...

QuickTime Question
I'm working on the score for a documentary a pal has done about local radio. He's sent me a QT movie, which loaded into DP on my Mac with no problem. I was hoping to have a guy from my band write some themes too. I burned him a dvd-rom disc of the QT.mov file, but his PC won't open it. He gets an er...

My bro used to work for Leon Patillo (ex Santana). He found a SH101 that Leon had put in the trash, and gave it to me. It got me excited about synths. As guitars were getting expensive, I started buying synths when they showed up in the pawns...A Moog Opus 3 later, and I was hooked. My faves are the...

I was introduced to the 501 when I worked at Egg in '94. I went out and bought one before I went home... $200. I picked up two more for $75-125. Now they seem to be back up to that $200 price. Still a good deal. Get as may as you need. Great boxes... On the cheap? A Rocktron 300A. get a good one che...

The one I have must be the second version. I've seen the ones that are two half rack units stacked in the tan case, and the purple ones. Mine is a black face thing. Very nice piece. I traded an old short scale, short horn Dano bass for this. It gets used all the time. Nice for the front end when rec...

I am mac based. and have no VST host on my laptop. Crap. i love little sound widgets... ....... The sfz sampler/soundfont player and triangle II monosynth from rgc:Audio; and the "MiniMogue" (intentionally misspelled by the developer I think) and 2600 should all work just fine if macs are up to the...

I have a load of synths. Its good fun to try and get some new sounds worked up. Easiest is to tweak presets... When I got my multi Moog, it took me an hour just to get a sound out of it! That is my idea of continuing education. I've finally been digging into mynew Arturia 2600. Mind boogling. I've g...

I am mac based. and have no VST host on my laptop. Crap. i love little sound widgets... I've got a Mac too. There are some AU soft synths to be found. I just did a search, and came up with four or five synths and a couple of other plug-ins. Obviously there are more PC/VST downloads. I got more than...
