Minimalist recording project on the Tascam 388. I have 3 good mics to use and they're all sm57's. A minimalist recording project (by necessity) using the 388. How do I get some reverb on the vocals without an outboard unit and without adding it in post on the computer? Can I use a guitar reverb pedal and, if so, how do I patch it in and make use of it?

Yeah, mine is pretty damn quiet, especially with the dbx engaged. It's got some noise...it's tape. But I didn't want to add noise.

I'm assuming if you were too concerned about noise the 388 wouldn't get used in the first place?

Why do you say that? Is yours excessively noisy?

Recording to 388, mixing down to laptop via a Line 6 Toneport UX2. The 388 out's are stereo RCA and the UX2's ins are 1/4" mono line ins.

Are these two going to jive and, if so, what's the best cable choice? RCA to 1/4"? Is there going to be quality loss or noise addition if I do so?

Additional question: can I use rubbing alcohol to clean the tape heads and path? 91%?

Ha, and that was all it took. No, I was NOT following correct playback procedure. I didn't set each channel to RMX. Now I did and now it's sounds amazing, except channel 1. On channel one the volume on playback varies. Flutters?
