Re: USB+MIDI=???? TELL ME I'M NOT CRAZY!!!
another thing to consider when discussing midi with customers, is that midi doesn't transmit "sound" at all.... only information... this information can include patch changes, but, no actual "sound" is transmitted.

Re: hybridists unite!
BUT, funny thing is, I really enjoy trying to make the live set sound like a drum machine, running it through effects like maybe the Alesis Philtre etc. Much fun. fun indeed! but, it is a little frustrating when a client hasn't budgeted enough time to mix properly and then they drop this request on...

Re: ibook vs powerbook
I returned an iBook because it did feel like a cheap toy to me. it had graphics freakouts and the metal thumb screw for the battery just completely broke out of the plastic case housing. when I tracked the two orders, my iBook shipped from Taiwan (cheap labor) and my Powerbook shipped from Californi...

Bowie is one of very, very few "classic rock" people whose newer stuff is still fantastic!
Rolling Stones? pshhhhh.... great in their day, but couldn't hold Bowie's jock these days!

Re: What happened to Danelectro guitars?
what a terribly sad world to live in!but it seems that most people would rather bitch about something than praise it
wouldn't it be great if "people" would just be honest instead of getting some kind of emotional satisfaction from bitching about/praising something?

Re: Triggered Drums & Drum Hit Replacement
I'm in the same boat... I'm getting ready to start a metal project on Saturday. I picked up an Alesis DM5 and a pack of acoustic triggers. I'll be tracking the kit with mics, but also recording the midi output of the DM5 into Cubase SX. I'll probably rewire those midi tracks to Reason and trigger so...

Re: Your killer Digi 001 rig
That just blows my mind that the latency would be different for different stereo pairs. I use Cubase SX with a RME card and have never had this problem when fanning out a mix to an analog board. This has GOT to be a driver issue with the 001! Does anyone know if the 002 has the same problem? I've be...

Re: Recording djembe
that's awesome!
I looked back at my tracksheets and I DID use a d112 for the bottom.
012 on the top, though...
but, it sounded great.
and, I'll echo the sentiment about what a great resource this board has become. (too bad nobody could help me out with a tsr-8 channel card, though)

weird...
we're both one timers with this instrument...
and, we both gave very similar advice at almost the same time.
maybe we DO know what we're doing?!?!

Re: Recording djembe
I recorded one recently... I didn't know what exactly to do either. I put the guy on a rug, so that I wouldn't have the thing echoing off of the floor. I put a small diaphragm condenser about two feet up and two feet out from the top of the drum head. I put a ldc about 4 feet away at about 6 inches ...

Re: new bands to listen to
Most of the stuff I've discovered lately, I've discovered from working at a local club running sound. Some of the touring (i.e. not just all of my friends' local bands) bands that I've enjoyed mixing the most are: Cordero - roca independiente The Malarkies - gorgeous Neil Young-ish music from a 2 pi...

Re: hybridists unite!
I really enjoy music that uses electronic elements for the distinct SOUND of electronic elements. I'm really not very fond of music where they try to trick you into believing that the electronic sounds are actually "organic" (non-synthetic) sounds. My rule is that if I'm using electronic drums, I wa...
