Anybody own one of these Blue Ball mics? Any pros or cons? Favorite applications?

Any favorite 'home recording' books out there that you guys recommend? Mic placement options are what I'm looking for most.

It's been days and Sennheiser has not replied to me, nor has Musicians Friend. They both should have a stock answer prepared for a simple question like this. You guys have all been really helpful. I just shipped the flat back for two silvers.

In regard to the Oktava mc-012...

I see there are a number of options when buying. Any favored configuration? Is the standard, single capsule version (the cheapest version) the most commonly used by you guys?

I've spent the day busy at work, using every free minute attempting to figure out if I should return a newly purchased Sennheiser e609 flat for two e609 silvers. From the help I've received here at TapeOp, it looks like I will go for the two silvers.

Thanks for the link. My interpretation is that they may have been manufactured in diff places, and may have slightly diff parts. The 'flat' is not as bright, but both are very well liked. I may return my 'flat' for two 'silvers.'

Anyone know if there is a difference between the Sennheiser e609 flat and the newer e609 silver? The silver is half the price and quite tempting looking.

Anyone care to share what their favorite mic's are for recording toms? I'm all set with snare and kick, and have been using 58's on my toms with decent results, but am curious what some of you would recommend. 609's work? 421's the way to go?
