All I have to contribute is my own stuff....(sorry?) A few sets (and growing) on recording a new record... ....the coolest of which feature our own Mr. Chris Garges recording, playing and engineering drums. Those particular photos are chock full of drum setup pics. http://davidtomaloff.myphot...

Like, everything!

Seriously...those are such fun mics. Acoustic guitars, vocals, drum rooms, percussion, electric guitars, you name it.

Not saying it always works but when it does, it really does. Good score!

Shooot....

I may be a couple short over here.

That's me though...always a day late and 2,999,998 compressors short.

I wish Scott Solter posted here, all would be answered. His Wurli work on John Vanderslice's 'Pixel Revolt' is stunning to say the least. Saw Scott do it all live, and it sounded exactly the same, totaly blown away. You can say that again and then some....that guy is amazing at like EVERYthing. He'...

...We've also cut sets of snare wires in a half and taped them to the tops of snares.......heylow Can you be a little more specific? THis sounds like it would be the shit. Could you use paper clips or washers instead? Yezzzir! HERE's a photo. You can cut em shorter, you can splay the ends a bit, yo...

We've done stuff like attaching multiple tambourines to a kick drum. We've also cut sets of snare wires in a half and taped them to the tops of snares....that's really fun....especially when you start experimenting with different lengths.

How many of y'all that are going omni overhead are using stereo room mic's? Chris Garges is "long-distace" playing/engineering drum stuff for a new project I'm working on and most tunes thus far have been done using a mono OH, a set of M/S "close" rooms and a set of "far" stereo rooms. This setup h...

The wrapping in foam deal is just that....usually a piece of foam wrapped around the body of the mic...like a taco or a hot dog or something...NOT covering the capsule. This usally gets cradled literally right under the arc of the bridge....like a big old boat getting stuck underneath a bridge. This...

I have a Startouch that works well but I kinda think the Radial stuff has a few more options that make them a little handier/nicer....I'd check into Radial.

My rendition of the old amp/DI method is to use a SansAmp Bass Driver split with a "proper" DI. I have found that the SansAmp gets a very believable "amp" sound but it's simpler and often "tighter" sounding to me...with less phase tweaking. Works for me. I just really rock the Sans up for something ...

I only have this to add.... Lately Chris Garges has been working on a bunch of drum stuff for me and prior to this project, I had never heard anything done with M/S. I have to say, I'm sold on it.....there is a certain "excitement" to the stereo image that I haven't gotten with other stereo setups. ...

I have tried the L2, the L3 and Ozone and, for my money, the Massey 2007 kills them all. I don't do any proper mastering, mind you....just the bumping up of rough tracks, demos, etc. The Massey is really cool and more versatile and musical than the others I have tried. Sometimes I'll stick the Masse...

I'd do it....with your mic.

Seriously though....shouldn't be a problem to try it. If it were me, I'd probably be anal enough to either angle it or put up a pop filter till I could hear what was going on. Beyond that, the mic will let you know...just listen.
