Re: No EQ
Thats fucking cool Joel. I reckon more people (such as myself) would be able to do that if they had better monitoring (and of course mic's and pres) so they could actually hear what the hell they were really recording. Of course it always helps when the band can play and has good equipment ;) Oh yea...

Re: Pink Floyd studio stuff
Thanks yall. Yeah, have been listening to Pink Floyd since I was a teenager...but to me, those three albums are PERFECT. I know there are a lot of "purists" ou there that like the syd barrett stuff more though. I just recorded a band doing a KILLER cover of Breathe...so I have been listening to all ...

Pink Floyd studio stuff
Does anyone around here know of any on line resources such as interviews with Pink Floyd or engineers talking about the Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here sessions? Or does anyone have or know of a website that has photos of them in those sessions? Not necessarily technical photos...

Re: 400 hours in
Damn...400 hours is a long time! I am in the middle of a 9 song album that is about 50 minutes. It is for our label, so we kind of have the luxury of spending as much time as we have (sort of...we have set a hard deadline for the mastering date). I think we are at the 70 hour mark and probably have ...

Re: Beta 52 acting weird...
Man...that sucks. I dont want to have to buy a new one...and I prefer it to the D112. No problems for 2 and half years then all of the sudden this crap. Well, I guess i should be glad...hardly anything these days lasts more than 1 year.

Beta 52 acting weird...
Alright, my other engineer plugged in our Beta 52 mic last night to record some bass and he was getting very little signal. So today I plugged it in to see if it was something he was overlooking in the signal path...what I found was kind of weird. When I cranked up the sytek channel it was going thr...

Re: This is getting ridiculous...
I am with Joel on this one for sure. I HATE the fucking volume wars. I have a guy here in Austin that not only has a resume a mile long...BUT actually cares about making something sound right, not just loud. Jim Wilson at Yes Mastering.

Re: DC / go go bands
The one year I lived in DC (born and raised and back in Texas) I got to record a Go-Go band for the first time. Damn, that was some crazy stuff. There were about 10 guys in the band. Recorded several songs with them...but it was cool...did most of it live. They brought this crazy video of a party th...

And you are in Central Texas, I would highly suggest getting in touch with Eric Archer (psychicoctopus on here). Not trying to make this an advertisement...but rather a public display of gratitude between tapeop readers (forum posters). He was very professional, punctual, effecient and pactient (eve...

Trying to find a new location for my studio in Austin, Texas
This might be a long shot...but here goes: I have owned and operated Republic Studios here in Austin, Texas for a little more than 2 years at the same location. However, rent is just too damn expensive and I need to move to a new building. I am looking to pay $500-$700 a month for something about 80...

Re: An open letter to gear manufacturers from an end user.
Joel! you cheeky little bastard! You wanna e-mail me or call me with more details about this console?!? You know I would be down with that idea for sure. Also, more funny stuff happened with my word clock...well, more of the same...I can't figure it out.
