I have a stereo pair of KM-184's. I like them, but would not buy them at their current price (I bought my pair brand new for $1k). I'd look at mics by Josephson or MG.

I know what you mean. I had a whole box full of them that I gave to the Salvation Army last week.

If you have a sampler/drum machine that has any Eastern flavored drums/percussion, you could always play over the top of that.

The Blue Baby Bottle is a good, darker sounding mic, and falls within your budget. Ribbons are another option.

I've got Celestion Blues, Greenbacks, and Jensens in various amps/cabs. If I had to stick to one it would probably be the Blues (or Celestion Golds if I needed higher Watt capacity).
