Right, BUT most folks take REALLY CRUMMY PHOTOS!!!!! Believe me. Want page after page of washed out flash photography, photos that run the size of a postage stamp at 300 dpi, grainy iPhone pix, or "retouched" atrocities? We can provide that. Luckily John likes the mag to look decent.
Good point.

Re: Watertower...

Yet, again...it costs money to hire photographers...and I like getting TapeOp for FREE. I like telling others about this amazing FREE magazine that blows out any other print resource on resource on recording I know of. I think a great portion of people who record now days (both in the studio and at...

I have a stereo pair of KM-184's. I like them, but would not buy them at their current price (I bought my pair brand new for $1k). I'd look at mics by Josephson or MG.

But I really wanted to see the inside of that Water Tower studio...

The actual articles in Tape Op are top notch, and they are inspiring, I just think that more interesting photos could really enhance that.

Small Tape Op magazine critique

I will preface this critique by saying that I adore Tape Op magazine, and I constantly rave about the magazine at every opportunity I get. Having said that, one thing that I would like to see in the magazine, is more photos of the studio/recording environment, actual session photos of the musicians ...

I know what you mean. I had a whole box full of them that I gave to the Salvation Army last week.

If you have a sampler/drum machine that has any Eastern flavored drums/percussion, you could always play over the top of that.

The Blue Baby Bottle is a good, darker sounding mic, and falls within your budget. Ribbons are another option.

I've got Celestion Blues, Greenbacks, and Jensens in various amps/cabs. If I had to stick to one it would probably be the Blues (or Celestion Golds if I needed higher Watt capacity).

I've been thinking about how cool it would be to use a netbook running something like Logic or Ableton Live along with Toontracks Superior Drums 2.0. That would be a great portable, very realistic sounding drum machine. I don't think that netbooks are quite powerful enough to pull off something like...
