I believe they have Doug Martsch's rig on there.

Basically, he plays a strat through a Danelectro Daddy-O into a Vibroking. Nothing fancy.

Re: Poll- help me buy something!

Thanks for the feedback- I'm probably going for the RNP first, and if I need more channels, I'll get the Sytek.

I probably can't use the Sytek for a while, at least until I get equipment that can handle balanced outs.

Again, this board is great for no BS feedback. Thanks!

Re: Poll- help me buy something!

Oh- music style- I like sparer solo like stuff. Listening to Bill Frisell and the "new" Jeff Buckley / Gary Lucas release (now I know why the earlier songwriting was better- it helps if the lead guitarist from Captain Beefheart is helping  ) Always liked Richard Thompson, Nick Drake and Low.

Re: Poll- help me buy something!

I'll probably get laughed off of this list because of the crap I have, but we all have to start somewhere, right? Current setup: Mackie 1402, Tascam 238s, RNC, Aphex 104/109, various Alesis stuff, Marantz CD recorder, Sony Minidisc. Mics: NT1, ML52, ATM25, SM57, C1000. Often record guitars direct th...

Poll- help me buy something!

I'm about ready to take the plunge on my first standalone preamp- what would you pick?

The Azerrad effect

Wouldn't be surprised if Michael Azerrad's book (Our Band Can Be Your Life) got them going.

Heck, Mission of Burma reunited (which was the best show I've seen in the last 10 years).

Three words

Gutters, gutters, gutters. You should look outside the building, and see how the gutters are set up. Check to see: * If the gutters are clogged * If the downspouts need extensions away from the walls * If the grading (the slope) around the building draws water away or towards the building If the lan...

others

I've liked the Voodoo Labs Sparkledrive (blendable distortion and clean) and the SIB Varidrive (when I did the side by side with the aforementioned Sparkledrive, the best Sparkledrive setting sounded like the Varidrive). I've also tried the Fulltone Distortion, and cranking the "Resonance" knob help...

Krylon Fusion

So here's a related question: would Krylon Fusion (the kind that bonds with plastic) be a bad idea with CD-R?

I'm thinking of doing some empirical testing, but wondered if anybody else went into that minefield before.

Thanks for posting the manual! Mine was completely in Russian, so with the exception of the response curve, nothing made sense.

Re: Recording drums with two mics

I used a Rode NT1 4 feet out from the kit, straight at the drummer, and an ATM25 for a kick just for an additional oomph. Sounded great for a jazz kit- sometimes less is more....
