Re: Where does one find inexpensive sound treatment?

Has anybody ever tried RockWool? It's those fibrous mats of stuff that people let the roots of their "tomato plants" grow through when they do indoor hydroponics. The reason I ask is that I understand that's what's in fact used in the core of those prefab iso booths you buy and screw together yourse...

Re: seeking tips for Otari 8 track operation

I have no anwers for the NEW set of questions, but as to the FIRST one I do have some thoughts. I just bought one of these myself about six months ago, had it professionally serviced, and have used it on two sessions now. I'm still learning too, but I can say a few things: 1.) 499 is not necessarily...

My Redundant Studio Stuff for Sale

Hi All, I'm selling some of my older "beginner-level" pro audio stuff on eBay as a single lot, now that I've got more badass gear myself. This is still actually a pretty nice bunch of stuff...just kind of Behringer-level as opposed to audiophile stuff. It's only $270 so you can't go wrong. Up for gr...

It's like a package deal...eat your heart out Las Vegas! Here's what happens after the Get drunk, pass out...

Re: Question: What IS Re-Amping a Snare?

Yeah, obviously with a DAW you have full control over how hot you're running signal out, so no need to explode your guitar amp. PLUS, the POD pro actually has a line-level input on the back in addition to the instrument jack on the front. Combine this with the amp modeling and you could really go ap...

Re: Question: What IS Re-Amping a Snare?

Wow! THanks as always for the speedy and comprehensicve responses, guys. THat's far more involved and wacko than I had assumed, but it sounds like a damn good idea. I get the point...I've recently taken to putting up an omni mic in the shower stall of my bathroom and leaving the bathroom door open.....

Question: What IS Re-Amping a Snare?

Hello Collective TapeOp Geniuses, Just was reading the new TapeOp and there was an off-handed comment in the interview with the guy from The Shins about "re-amping snare drums" as a studio technique. What is this all about? My assumption would be that after the snare is recorded to tape or DAW, the ...

Re: Photos of YOU

There goes Jay with his Jeff Watson fetish again (a few messages back). I think we co-infected a thread yesterday with all the Night Ranger one can take in a single decade. The first pic is me gloating over my first tape machine ever which I just got and am still learning how to rock with. The secon...

rrrhhaaa, rrrhhaaa, rrrhhaaa....rrreeear, rrreeear.......rrreeear, rrreeear.....rrreeear, rrreeear! That was my Oh Sherry guitar solo imitation. Like it? How about the spiky red 80's guitar that his guitar player rocks out with on the "Strung Out" video? That was bad, too. But now that I think of it...

Re: Biggest Pet Peeve clients do in the studio...

heylow's thing about the tube mic guy hit a definite nerve for me. That seems to be an increasingly annoying factor with the whole new wave of lo-fi type stuff out there. Last year I recorded this album for a band that fit that mold in my local area...I think the only reason they came to me was beca...

Re: Night Ranger vs. Triumph vs. Zebra vs. Journey vs. ...

Kelly Keagey...fuckin' A you nailed it! And yes, Neal Schon was the shit, particularly after he left the Santana idiom (idi-OT?). I hear that for the last few years he's been on the Craig Chaquico bandwagon where you get on a new-age label and do that kind of bland acoustic non-jazz thing? I guess w...

Holy shit, I can't believe I said Jeff Watson when I meant Brad Gillis...I really need to proof my posts more thoroughly...I feel like a fucking poseur! I'm with ya though...he was the meat of the guitar player team all dissing aside. Not the only great musican in the band, though. I stand by what I...

Re: just picked up an Art Pro VLA compressor...

I don't have the VLA but I had a friend who did and he brought it to my studio. Everything that's been said in this thread is true and based on that incident I went out and bought the ART Pro-Channel, which is a VLA plus parametric EQ and tube mic preamp with MASSIVE gain. Oh yeah...and it's $400. I...

Re: Night Ranger vs. Triumph vs. Zebra vs. Journey vs. ...

I have to pull this thread back to chetatkinsdiet's Jeff Watson solo effort rant... That fuckassedly bad painting of him on the horse was done by his WIFE. Knock me over with a goddamn feather on THAT one. He lives near me in Petaluma, CA (or used to about eight years ago) and there was this friend-...
