I bought mine on e-bay too, I wonder if all of us bought ours from a bad seller? It seems strange that all of us with blowed up pres all bought them on e-bay.

I had the same thing happen to me. I am in the middle of trying to get a new one, but I went through the place I bought it from. I have always heard great things about EH and would think they would be the way to go. I wonder why they are having these problems?

Thanks Joel. I will see if anyone has one around and try them out. I will continue to lust for the CV, but my bank account will thank you. I do hate being reasonable.

Is there a specific "taste" of sans amp you like more than the others Joel?

That makes more sense than I use when I shop. I guess I do need to play with other types of distortion before I move up, but what would you suggest for all the things the CV does for less.

I was checking that out. I thought it was just a detented thing. Now I have to drum up some more work to get that extra grand. I might go old school and start mowing lawns in the neighborhood.

Since there are more than just "indented" differences between the mastering version and the other one, is there a sound quality difference that you have heard or heard about Joel?

You have to make sure it is dirty, old, and one of Joel's, and then you just pull it over the SM57 and place it like you normally would. They also have Studio G Strings to tie around the sock to hold it on.

Ditto, and thanks for the tip about how an old sock can make a SM57 sound like a vintage U47. I used it on some vocals today and it was amazing.

For that "germanium" sound, how does adding it with the EQ hold up against the Pre? Is there any comparison?

Fletcher, do you tend to use the Transient Designer to take the transients away or enhance them on the parallel? is it just more of an exact form of the typical drum parallel?
