Huh, I've been in the box- a product of my Mackie board not being a real upgrade for the final mix. But now I have some nicer preamps around. I wonder if shooting two channels out to my Sytek and back would get anything better happening then my ITB. Obviously, the thing would be to try it- but anyon...

Totally great idea. I weighed in on the dozen or so that I know intimately.

This could be an outstanding resource for folks hoping to expand their collection.

When/how can we view the results?

I love those weird non-tech analogies that clients make. I had a guy tell me to make the snare drum sound like it was being hit by a cactus. I told him maybe he was wishing the drummer had used hot rods instead of sticks.

Your points appeal to my logic. Someone at some acoustic stuff.com business should thank you for directing me their way. In the cart:

Green Glue
Acoustic Caulk

Giddyup.

Acoustic Caulk (is it worth it?)

My great construction effort begins in a couple weeks, and I will be using the payment of my latest recording project to get some Green Glue. I understand the benefit of that stuff. But while I'm ordering, I need to decide if I want to use acoustic caulk or not for all the cracks/seams etc. So what ...

It's hard to do my day job when I know that gear is just sitting in my studio unused. That?s it, im going home early today.

It seems like most of the newest gear is a little slow to proliferate, get reviewed etc.

Both this unit and the new FMR compressor are available at Mercenary, but there are no serious reviews or testimonies out there.

Right now I just throw 703 at most of my problems. Lots of burlap. I might make a superchunk for a couple corners, but I'm almost tempted to stack up rolls of unopened insulation and then just stretch fabric across the corner. Some wood bass traps would look boss. Probably would cover an end of the ...

KRK Rokit 8's gen 2. I got a deal on an open box pair. I've been trying to score some used Even Precision 8's but the closing deal always flies out of my budget range. I just couldn't wait anymore. I have a big project coming up that will cover the cost of the monitors and if I had to mix another re...

I just realized in all these years I never learned what a Leveling Amp is. Maybe cause I've never owned one. Dang.

Nice ideas. My studio is three quarters underground so natural light is fairly limited (especially when I close the window plug for drum tracking). I think you gave me a crazy idea for the control room, Charlie. I have a bucket and a half of paint left over from my kitchen that could be called banan...

I think the quality of the preamp trumps the quality of the compressor. I suppose if anything in you signal line mic-> preamp-> compressor-> is really bad it brings the whole thing down. Perhaps their importance is in that order. The only thing that stops that is there are really great mics that peo...

Can I drop by the studio next time I'm in Brooklyn?

Meanwhile have an assistant with a laptop and just narrate as your tracking or mixing.

What color to paint a control room

I've been painting a lot of other rooms in my house lately, and I've been thinking about what colors work for a studio. A good live room or control room, should be a good blend of exciting, and calming. It seems like bolder choices end up being more fun and rewarding. Obviously a medium to small roo...

I try every vocal mic, unless one sounds definitive for that voice, in which case I stop searching. AT4033, or AKG C4000B, or Blue Baby Bottle, or EV RE20 into Sytek Burr Brown into either DBX 160X or Symetrix 501 into Lynx Aurora Usually 3:1 or less on the comp and I will usually throw on the Waves...
