Re: This nutty sweetwater stuff...

>>>>I call B.S. on the poster's part. I think he is pulling everyone's leg.<<<< Maybe. It would sure seem like it has to be a joke, right? But then again, there's the story that the late Steve Bradley, the audio professor at the University of Buffalo, used to tell. Early in his career (college?), S...

Let's talk Hotel California.

Just learned that Felder used a 59 Paul for most of his stuff on this album. So, naturally, I want to know more. Anything and everything about the recording, equipment, instruments, song facts, anything. Anyone know which guitar was used for "Fast Lane" - Tele or Strat? Is the song about Lindsey Buc...

Drummer-Activated samplers?

What are the best samplers that can be mounted to a mic-stand, so a drummer can hit (his stick) on it to start/stop the loop?

I remember seeing a few bands doing this. but can't remember the gear.

Wow. An oyster black Ringo kit and a couple KM54's, with the 18" crash almost touching the wall? I guess it's like the guitars on the first Zep album being done with Tele and a tiny Supro amp -- looks can be decieving. So can sounds. The reason these recordings sound SO cool are: Properly tuned dru...

I think the "recordings" are ok for the period, just very RAW production.

One nice thing to control a bass is to "duck" with the kick. So when the kick sounds, it will trigger a compressor on the bass track. This knocks the bass down a bit to make room for the kick's definition to come through. I had a lot of success with this technique.

I have Pro Tools Mix Plus and a Mackie board. When I do use the board, I just go from the Pro Tools (888-24) into my tape returns on the board. Pro Tools will send the signal really hot, so you might want to be running them through any on-board mic pres. I've had success with that set up. Mind you, ...

Hey Brad, I like those sounds on your site! Is that basically the same drum setup on like, Chaos and Tourniquests & Time as it is on Living on a Prayer and Hangovers Suck ? If so, that's an impressive variety of ambient vibes from such a simple setup in a basement, IIDSSMS(*). I was following your ...

Re: Glyn Johns tom mic positioning and phase question

Question 1) I feel like an idiot, but I can't seem to figure out (in either Glyn Johns, RecorderMan, or some hybrid) HOW to make the floor tom/shoulder mic the same distances from both the snare and the kick drum as the overhead mic without putting the floor/shoulder mic directly behind either my h...

D12 or D112 ?

I recently heard a recording with a D112 on kick. Sounded really great. I'm wondering if it's worth it - or a huge mistake to sell my D12 and get a 112?

Anybody got any insight or experience to go one way or the other?
