aside from having to turn one's head to read the markings, why has nobody done this?
Someone just did.

I would go with the tried and true 'OC703 bass trap' on the walls and in corners idea. If you do a little research on this site you will find more than enough info on it. I did this with about 9 traps to my tracking room which is a little bigger than yours. It works well and I'm actually able to tra...

I just won a bid on my first for $52 shipped. It is from the 60's and I want to be able to start giving an answer when bands ask me what vintage mics I have. I also just won a bid for a Unidyne III 545SD two days ago. I would have preferred $30 but what are you gonna do? edit: and it came in the ma...

Damn, I paid like $80 for mine. It was new though, and black, which I like. I was sick of loosing ebay bids for beat up old ones. Plus, I heard the black ones sound better....I kid.

No, like the guy above said you can't use the tubefire8 with pro-tools unless you somehow have it hooked up to a digidesign interface or supported m-audio (with m-powered pro-tools) interface of some sort. But you can do what you describe, normally you just have to make sure to create stems (mix dow...

Yeah, I'm thinking they actually did this right. Quite a relief. I think yes Ryan, it's supposed to be the latency reading is more accurate, thus appears higher, but in actual usage it's slightly faster. I don't really notice a difference myself, but my recording habits are pretty low-impact...I ne...

They are working good for me as well. I used to have about 50ms latency going into Tracktion according to it's latency detection, now I have about 3.5ms, which astounds me. It seems slightly less consistent though, my readings change ever so slightly when I reboot my system. Not sure if this is norm...

Re: Heat and racked gear.

Thanks very much for the info, i was however wondering..... They both get very slightly different latency's which I can compensate for in Tracktion, [/quote] .....I also have to compensate in 'Nuendo' will I able to adjust two units? Or is this unit built around 'Tracktion' for that very reason? Hm...

Re: Heat and racked gear.

I'll try the fan idea once I fill my rack, it seems like it would be equivalent to fanning a space heater though. Actually, by then maybe I'll just get a bigger rack and space them since I don't wanna risk any gear. I would get a 1 rack space fan, but like I said all I have is 4 spaces and am about ...

Heat and racked gear.

I recently got another Mackie 400f which makes 3 spaces fillled in my 4U portable rack thing, along with my half rack headphone amp and a half rack preamp. I did a session the other day all day and by the end I put my hand on the top of the top 400f and on the front of the lower one, they were direc...

I have been waiting for a year for drivers to link two f400 together, all they have are beta drivers that make everything worse. Ok i'm done, wait... I hate you Mackie!!!... ok now I'm done...

Ask the band how they want to do it. If they don't mind using a vocal booth or singing through a P.A. then try that and see how it sounds. This is what I do and usually they say they want to do everything live. Then when we listen to that they realize there is too much cymbal bleed in the vocals and...

Samson C-valve, a $80 hidden gem, basically perfect for exactly what you describe. Hook up another preamp to it and you can use both s/pdif channels with it's a/d.

That said, once I listen to the mix on real monitors it always sounds completely different than I thought it did. I also use a bunch of different headphones for reference, but I never try to mix on them for exactly that reason. Any time I try, when I go back to the monitors it sounds weird. The k24...
