Re: What format for deliverables?
Oh man. My extremities are numb with fear! This is making me realize that after years of religiously backing up session files daily, separate HDD for sessions even during the workday etc... I have completely neglected to back up my (SSD) system drive. With years of custom Kontakt instruments, sample...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
Under that argument - why buy a uad satellite at all? Or do you specifically need something only available on that platform? It seems that as far as temporarily 'replacing' specific pieces of equipment with no fuss (LA3As, LA2A, 2254 etc) UAD are widely considered the best option. I'm going to try ...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
Thanks so much everyone! This is incredibly helpful. I didn't realize how many subscription models there were now - I've mostly bought plugins one at a time from smaller companies, here and there. The irony is that in light of that, it's looking as though the bulk of the expense will be a UAD satell...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
+1 for plugin alliance subscription, though I would really miss my UAD comps - esp 33609. over the years, i've acquired an awful lot of UAD plugs buying second hand cards. plenty of deals out there if you're patient, especially as studios need to rely less and less on unloading CPU processing power...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
Thanks so much for these! Plug-in alliance bundle looks like a good move - lots of great stuff in there. Looking at UAD satellite it seems that comes with a pretty solid basic set of plugins - might be a good idea to do that then supplement with a few handpicked additions? Any UAD favorites? I will ...

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
But seriously, it seems like you have a ton of color and control out of the box for eq and compression, I would think some more utilitarian in the box eq and compression for easy work flow, and a couple versatile reverbs would leave you with plenty of powerful options. Sure! I guess I'm getting at ...

Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio
Hey all! I am (with a little luck in the vaccine department) moving out of the country soon, which means that at least temporarily, I will be leaving the comfort & familiarity of my analog console, outboard racks, synths etc behind. I'm planning on renting a mix room so that I can pay for my life an...

Re: Headphone mix suggestions?
Chiming in to add that if you do go the multichannel monitor mixer route... make sure to leave one in the control room so you can take a peek at what people are hearing and tune it up in realtime!

This speaks volumes - follow your heart!gravitychapters wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 10:27 amIt bothers me tremendously that my iphone as a more solid (and more considered, more thoughtful) power supply than my Neve mic pre. I want to feel like someone really cared about the unit's creation and put endless thought into it.

Re: 1073 SPX pre versus Shelford Channel pre?
I have used both and prefer the Shelford channel (which shouldn't be a surprise considering the difference in price). But I'd like to qualify that a bit - all of this crap is so goddamned psychosomatic, and the real head-twister is that it can be actual and psychosomatic at the same time . I have tr...

Re: Existential problem: Reverb
Oh man. This one really hit home for me in a number of ways. What a conundrum! Reverb... I'll try to offer what little perspective I can, as I've sort of grappled with this from the other end - maybe we can sail in opposite directions here, meet in the middle, we'll both drown and they'll write a so...

Re: Tape Transfer Options
Sorry to hear about your MS16! Great machine. What went wrong? Shouldn't be much that can't be fixed, especially if you can sort out an 'as is' backup deck for parts... they do show up sometimes! Did it catch on fire?? I know Pierre de Reeder & Curt Anderson at 64 sound were planning on starting up ...

Re: Truth time- incredibly dumb things you did when you didn't know any better
Around 2006 / 2007. Borrowed a 421 from a friend to use on vocals, recording a touring band live to 8-track 1/2" in my Chicago basement "studio." This was a Good, Expensive Microphone. Also not an SM57. Also a Real Touring Band. VERY exciting. I think I was 19 - I ask the singer to sing a little so ...
