Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

It's amazing how the people in the street below the rooftop seem like 100 years ago rather than 50.

Re: Live recording acoustic group

The acoustic/uke/vcls I'd go for 4 figure 8's first if I could.

So much depends on the room and volume. Sometimes omni's win.

Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

I’d guess most of is doing any of this any amount of time will have some PTSD flashes one way or another. I certainly did relate to many of the conflicts and pressures. It’s funny how much the scale of external expectations doesn’t change that part. Did I see Johns do 2 bits of production they took ...

Re: How much do you "fix" without telling your client?

I suppose I feel like the client is gonna get their ‘fix’ somewhere, be it with me or with someone else. They mostly don’t seem to care how it happens, or whether they know about it. It feels like if I can do it, I should. On the other hand, I hate doing much of it, so if there’s any window to talk ...

Re: McCartney 3,2,1

Dig the material, but had a hard time with the short attention span overly pumped up nature of the presentation. Didn't cover a lot in one episode, wasn't long, but still I felt exhausted. Probably just me! Actually sounds like the definition of a properly presented meal. Will try again.....

Electro-Voice RE10

Works well, sounds reasonably similar to both my RE16’s. EQ switch works. Has had the grill foam removed as it was starting to go. Slight grill deformation and impact ding seen in 2nd pic, and the side vent is raised some near the rear, but is firmly in place. Overall very good shape. No clip or bag...

Re: Microphone Attenuation

btw, what kind is the preamp? It’s an old racked RCA BA71. It has a built in pad but it doesn’t sound that great when it’s engaged. It also has switchable impedance. If I switch it from 150 ohms to 600 ohms it knocks the signal down and seems to preserve the signal much better. Is that accomplishin...

Re: Hammond Fluid Column Reverb

Nice find. I wonder if those crystal pickups are like crystal mics, in that they absorb humidity and die over time.

Re: Vintage EV V2 ribbon microphone questions

Hi-Z can feed a direct box. Or those Radio Shack inline hi-z to low-z. Cloudlifter/etc isn’t high enough.

You’re sure this is a V2 that is a ribbon? I think there are versions with dynamic coil elements also.

Re: Steve Fisk and "appropriate reverb"

One of my usual mastering guys is really attentive to it, maybe too much at times. Insists on everything being in the same space, and wants to add additional ambience to create it. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes things in pop are supposed to be in different spaces....together.....and tastes ...

Re: Beyerdynamic M160 vs. Coles 4038

I love what they both do, and very different outcomes.

I finally had RCA 44-BX and BK-11A up at the same time, the latter being the 'replacement' for the former officially, also very different sounding.

Different package than the ones I worked on, but the guts look really similar. I agree that black tubular cap type is almost always bad. Everything I said in my groupDIY thread should still apply.

Re: Mixing with the band there

Used to be the band was always present, and that dropped off 12-15 years ago immediately to NO ONE attending. For me at least. The part I miss about attended mix sessions is that, no matter what crazy things occurred, you were probably done when they left. As opposed to now, with a dozen recall/remi...
