I like how after a whole album full of all these crazy weird sounds, the last song on the new record is pretty much just Wurly/bass/drums/minimal guitar with Wayne singing right out front. Hardly any Pro Tools gimmicry or weirdness on that last track at all, it almost sounds like it might be a lot o...

They're not called "Portastudios" for nothing...record your vocals and handclaps in that funky tile bathroom...acoustic guitars outside on the sundeck...vocals in the closet...bass on a picnic table in the park using a cigarette lighter adapter for the car...the old jangly upright piano at grandma's...

I haven't used it for this purpose myself, but I have heard a recording of an old 78 RPM record that a friend of mine "de-noised" using Audacity (see above), and it was very impressive...he left all the scratchiness and the needle dropping at the beginning, and then faded in the noise reduction, so ...

WTB - MBox 1
OK, wanted to buy, a Digidesign Mbox 1 w/ Pro Tools. Prefer something around Pro Tools 6.4 but doesn't specifically have to be that number. I'd really like the basic package w/ Reason, Sampletank, discs, manuals, etc. -- the one that was under every teenaged musicians' Christmas tree the last two or...

Well...I bought a slightly older version of that MXL mic for my "first condenser," on a budget just like you, and truthfully, it didn't satisfy me for very long...it was kind of thin and brittle and sounded great for some things or a certain effect, like to get a weird room sound, but overall it rea...

So simple, and yet so mysterious. For some strange reason, this thread makes me think of that quote from Bob Marley, sampled near the end of "Paul's Boutique" -- "If you explain to a musician, he'll tell that he knows it, but he just can't do it." Me, I've always wondered about the echoey sound that...

Geeky Metal Guitar Question -- scalloped frets?
OK, on a wanky heavy metal guitar, "scalloped frets" such as in this picture
What do scalloped frets do? What is the benefit?
Just curious. I don't know why I don't know this, just thought I would ask. Thanks in advance.

Re: Seatlle
Wait, is seeabove going to be in Seattle, or in Seatlle? Because that might have been what caused Walnut such problems. I thought that's what the whole mystery was -- he thought he was going to Seattle but took the wrong exit and wound up in Seatlle, yo.

Re: fuck the L train
The G is like the Train Of The Damned or something. The L may be a mere myth and legend after midnight, but at least its route occasionally passes through civilization.

Re: Buonus Track on Green
The story I always heard about that 11th song on "Green" is that it's not Bill Berry playing drums -- he was having trouble playing that beat all the way through the track, he kept messing up and got frustrated, and finally he was like "You want the drums to play that beat, you do it!" and so one of...

Re: fuck the L train
Ah yes, there are few things worse than waiting and waiting and waiting for the freaking L train in the wee hours, and then you finally hear a train coming, and then it's the goddanged yellow garbage can train...and it's all local track, and the garbage train goes crawling off at a snail's pace, so ...

Re: Things I have given up on...
I'm not willing to give up on D Minor 7th yet. I think it needs another chance.
I've given up on my older brother ever moving out of my parent's house. He's 43, how's that for sad.
