Re: Eagles vs. Patriots || Super Bowl XXXIX

I dunno, man. I think it's interesting. I've been saying for a while now, that it's going to be a huge game. It's football of the future (Eagles -- handsome black run-option quarterback, selfish "me me me" showboating free agent receivers, hip-hop end zone dancing, hard-hitting crazy maniac streetba...

Re: Ever gone to work screwed up?

Slightly off-topic, but speaking of professionally partying scientists -- I know a dude who's a geologist, and that guy can pack down the beer and booze like a Hell's Angel or something if you get him going. Demolishes beer by the case. Oh, yeah, he occasionally goes on camping trips with other geol...

Re: favorite pedal

I've been using an Alesis Philtre on guitar lately, with the Rate set on zero, so it's not doing any sweeping or filtering or auto-wah type thing, it's really just like a funky EQ that does something to make the guitar sound beefier and/or prettier. Makes for a really good, murky, kinda sleazy rhyth...

Re: awesome crazy panning on songs.

I always loved the spread on "Live At Leeds." One speaker is ALL Entwhistle's bass, the other is ALL Townsend. Moon and Daltrey are in the middle. Back in 7th-8th grade I used to have this old-fashioned, third-hand, all-in-one '70s stereo that you could plug mics into the front of it, so one day I d...

Re: Hey The South

The States that observe Lee-Jackson-King day are all red states whose elected leaders were also at the heart of the Contract With America, Newt Gingrich revolution, Bob Jones University, these same states were the ones w/ confederate flag controversies, etc. Is it a coincidence?

Re: The Worst of the Best

I've got a very good one- The Rutles! They did a brilliant first LP then had to do that Archeology album and spoil everything, why did they bother. I think technology ruined that one I know this is gonna sound silly, but if they hadn't called it the Rutles it would have been a decent album. I mean,...

Re: The Worst of the Best

Hey ubertar, it doesn't completely explain the Coverdale/Page debacle, but you might be interested in my theory about why The Firm and '80s Jimmy Page sucked so bad. I've always thought he was grieving and he didn't know what to do. He was actually, honestly grieving, because his drummer and mate di...

Re: Brad Mehldau "Largo"

The obvious comparison is Bill Evans, but sometimes his melodic choices, and the way he spaces out notes, remind me of Thelonious Monk.
I've also said in the past that he's kind of like a Gen-X Bill Guaraldi.

Re: I Don't Like Movies About Nazis

What's the best (readable, interesting) biography of hitler? The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L Shirer is like huge and long but considered to be one of the best books about Hitler. There's another really good, slightly shorter one that my brother loaned me a few years ago, check bac...

Re: The Worst of the Best

I think the idea of the artist "losing it" has everything to do with stardom and its accoutrements -- not only does one become surrounded by yes-men and go-fers and "you really are great, man, that last track you cut was awesome, can I get you some blow or anything?" but one also mistakenly begins t...

Re: I Don't Like Movies About Nazis

If you don't like movies about Nazis, you probably won't like books about them either. But there is a very fascinating book called "Did You Ever See Hitler?" by Walter Kempowski, (translated by Michael Roloff, Avon Books, 1975). Basically it's just a bunch of interviews with people, Germans and Jews...

Trodden, dude, Charles Bronson just called you a dick. That's pretty sweet.

Stay away from his daughter though. He's very protective about who she dates.

Re: New iMac Mini just announced

I was going to spend about $500 for a processor upgrade for my G4 466 but I think the mini imac has changed my mind for me. I'll bet that's precisely what they wanted you to do. Why upgrade your old system that still works, when they can sell you a whole new one? Keep in mind that a lot of accessor...

Re: How did you fund your studios?

My friends' band funded their studio by blowing a sizable chunk of their major label record company advance on guitars and gear...not really an option now that the alternative boom years are over... :( They never sold much of anything and got dropped and are now in huge debt up to their eyeballs for...

Re: question

Kinda what sserendipity said, I was gonna suggest using the drum overhead that wasn't distorted, and maybe doubling it, copying it to the right and then EQing it to bring out stuff that's getting lost, or if parts of the kit are really truly lost then maybe overdubbing a hi-hat track again, or throw...
