RPM CHALLENGE 2009

http://www.rpmchallenge.com/

Okay, so we're in. Sorry to hijack the 2008 thread but I thought it might be better to start a new thread for this year.

Early G5s had PCI-X, later ones had PCI-e. Didn't some also have PCI??? There is much confusion between some of the models. Download a copy of Mactracker to find out which one you have: http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ I've had luck upgrading to a G5 by migrating (using the Migration Assistant) b...

There are other iPhone DAW controllers: TouchOSC ITM MCU (lots of neat ITM products btw) -- this is for Live only atm Snatch ProTransport (soon to offer cubase control) I haven't yet tried any of them as I'm between DAW setups but will likely go with Snatch as it's customizable. I saw an amazing pre...

Thanks for reminding me, I gotta pay for the Rocket! I think it's gotten me one step closer to saying goodbye to the beloved Blockfish.

Carbon Copy Cloner for cloning of entire OS X volumes. I also like SuperDuper! Both will allow you to schedule backups to take place at a set time and you can specify what directories you want backed up on the volume. CCC is free. SD is free but if you want to schedule and etc. it's like $30. Totall...

Well that's good news there! Three backups is ideal but two is more than enough so long as you stick to a schedule, say weekly, and move one of them offsite once the backup completes. I have plenty of clients that do that and sleep so much easier because of it. Do you want your only backup to be att...

I got a Kickball from AMS and while it's definitely a 'color' mic I just don't know if I like it yet. On the plus setting, you can really get a ton of oomph from a kick drum and on the neutral setting bass guitar sounds great through larger cabs. Haven't tried vocals on it yet but I'm thinking it wo...

Thanks a lot, just caught it before it disappeared. I'll agree it's a bit Morrissey-heavy but to me Marr's role is less interesting. I'm a sucker for stories behind lyrics, not what songs guitar tuning influenced something. I did enjoy seeing how the second guitarist played on the Queen is Dead.

I don't know how the Bob Dylan method works here. AI is very, very specifically and narrowly about mainstream pop music. Dylan doesn't really fit that style at all. AI and GBV are working in different spheres. They may overlap for brief comic seconds here and there, but televised pop and the sort o...

Logic 8.0.2 update is out!

Came out yesterday via Software Update. List of fixes is like five pages long: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1086 I've installed it on my laptop and it seems much snappier. If anyone has anything specific they want me to test I'll be glad to do so. BTW, the only third party plugs I use on this machi...

You have a good point b3groover. I lost a total of almost 2 months of recording time.... That pissed me off. The customer service for presonus sucks ass. Sorry to hear but I've had nothing but pleasant results from their customer service. Hell, name me one (manufacturing) company that you can call ...

Saw them on the seamonster's tour as well at the old 9:30 club in DC. I'd been a fan ever since Bizarro came out on RCA. Seeing them play live was exhilarating, they were spot on the most professional players I'd ever seen just so tight. The lack of an encore (I mean, really? Even to this day? reall...
