So the master volume doesn't affect the hum? Also, stick a 'dummy plug' (one with the tip and ground connected) in the input and see if it stays the same. Actually the volume and reverb both affect it...The volume gets noisier right between 5 and 7 and than quiets down around 10...but the reverb po...

Really, no one had anything truly great to say about this shit? fuck it. I quit. No one's ever given a shit about anything I've ever done and I just cannot fucking take it any fucking longer. I'm broke, living in my parents' basement, with no job, no car, no opportunities, no job skills because i'v...

Re: 71 Fender Twin Reverb Hum attenuated by knob even W/o tu
So, I asked my friend, John, who is a long-time Fender amp-repair Pro, about this problem... (BTW, He also owns several vintage Fender Amps, himself.) And, here's his reply: "Without seeing it, I'll have to guess. So, I am in no way responsible for being wrong when guessing... The Fourth tube from ...

71 Fender Twin Reverb Hum attenuated by knob even W/o tubein
OK this is driving me nut's...I have a 71 fender twin pre master volume. It has a hum which seems to come from the reverb circuit. Even with no load and everything on zero and the reverb pan and tube pulled you can still attenuate the hum with the reverb knob. This amp also has the typical vibrato o...

just for another point, different construction types of caps can sound subtly different. Ceramic caps tend to be the 'lowest-fi,' they can exhibit measurable hysteresis/distortion and can have a 'grainy' sound. People get real fetishistic with different cap types. For small values lots of poeple li...

capacitor questions
This may seem like a no brainer but I am buying some parts for a Mic build with a nine volt power supply. It's the same one in an earlier post here for the TapeOp DIY Mic. Should I just get Capacitors rated for over nine volts or go higher than that? I am buying these from Mouser and there is also o...

Awesome, now I just need to figure out how to read a schematic (even one as simple as that)! I'm good with soldering but I've never done anything at all with a circuit. PM me if you get stuck. Thanks, I can almost guarantee I'll be contacting you soon! I just ordered some cartridges so I'll be in t...

I'm curious: is there a particular reason why you selected just those two? Amongst all the 1" 8 tracks, they are pretty different in terms of tape handling, sound, complexity and so on. Have you ruled out MCI, Studer and 3M? Cheers, Otto They were actually recommended in a TapeOp article I read it'...
