Is there someone making purposely "inefficient" speakers for this sort of thing? Maybe with weaker magnets, less turns of speaker wire, thicker cones? (disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about here). It seems like a more straightforward approach than the power-soaks, and those gizmos that l...

This might be obvious to everyone my age... You can use a cheap dynamic mic (think 1970's tape recorder) as a talk-box or rotating speaker. Plugging the 1/8" plug to an earphone jack (heh, I mean headphone jack) makes the microphone act as a speaker. This can be modulated by either pointing at/in yo...

Not exactly recording gear, but certainly makes short work of any number of jobs.

The AC power cable is clearly 2-conductor lamp cord. I don't think a photo of the plug is going to mean anything.
Oops, I gotta stay off the internets after having several "refreshments" last night.

The AC plug, is it 2 prong or 3? A picture of that might be useful.

I just got a Gretsch Electromatic G5120 (in orange) from GC (insurance replacement for something previously stolen). Already love it, it's probably not as good as a "real" one, but I don't hear the $1600 difference (especially with me playing it).

I bet Shazam, Midori or an audio recording app on your (i) phone would've come in handy. You don't know if it was a male or female singing? I'll guess - Eartha Kitt. RIP Catwoman.

I don't recognize that e-g-a-d tuning, but I'm sure somebody uses it.

http://steelguitarforum.com the "no peddlers" section - lots of info here.

I'm in the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association - they also have a web site http://hsga.org

Keep an eye on the Sonoma forums, they have a few suggestions there.
I am using the Apple earbud/mic for now, although the mic seems to have too much gain sometimes.

It's sounding like the old George Carlin bit about morons vs. maniacs on the road:

NPR just ran a segment on Kanye West's new CD, basically about the fact that he uses Autotune as a vocal effect on every track--the signature vocal sound of the record, if you will. Which would be more cool if 6 million dance tunes hadn't already done that, but... I happened to see him on Letterman...

I forgot to mention the 'Oblique Strategies' (free) app - does that count as music-oriented?

Anyone pulled the trigger on the 'Ocarina' yet? I see it's the number one paid app at the moment... I like to do a lot more research before spending 99 cents than I do for everything else I buy.

Update: got it, now I have another instrument I'm bad at. Whoohoo!
