NPR just ran a segment on Kanye West's new CD, basically about the fact that he uses Autotune as a vocal effect on every track--the signature vocal sound of the record, if you will. Which would be more cool if 6 million dance tunes hadn't already done that, but... Yeah, I was a little disappointed ...

The inevitable Chinese Democracy thread

The entire record is available for streaming on the "band's" official Myspace page. Admit it, the curiosity is killing you. The album release is great timing, actually. It's the perfect soundtrack to multi-billion dollar government bailouts. They captured the exact sound of pointlessly throwing insa...

I think the ambient one sounds MUCH better, especially considering the musical idiom you're working in. I can hear the shed itself, and that is about as country as you can get, haha. It's interesting to hear the all-or-nothing contrast in the recording. Obviously the most flexible approach is to wei...

The opening CRASH when the whole band comes in on "Sonic Reducer".

My heart rate goes up by like 10bpm when that shit kicks in. I wanna take off my pants and pour beer on my head and punch strangers in the fuckin' face. God, I love that song.

I liked last summer's big ubiquitous pop single, "Umbrella," better.

ella ella ella hey hey hey etc.

The mild titillation of faux-lesbianism will always, ALWAYS sell. Ask any sorority chick who makes out with her friend at a frat party.

Booooring.

If this isn't a signal flare for "I am a pretentious asshole," I don't know what is.

what if his picks are made from moon rocks? he probly currently uses the picks he endorses on that site, tho. apparently in the mid-80s he was using invisible picks: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/217/487615467_5e7667a920.jpg Who designed THAT guitar? David Cronenberg? Kinda looks like one of those...

I can't think about Steely Dan without thinking of this Achewood comic:

I think the playing and the changes are hip, but I never could get into dude's voice, personally.

I've had surprisingly little trouble convincing guitar and bass players to turn their rigs down when necessary. I might get a dirty look, but they have generally complied with my requests. Just lucky I guess. One thing that's good to consider is the appropriate volume level is for your room/number o...

In 1997, Antares made the decision to move into the hardware DSP effects processor market with the ATR-1, a rack-mount version of Auto-Tune." Are these considered "vintage" yet? I'll have to check out the other tracks. I love Master and I even love Justice even though the bass is barely audible. Actually I just listened to Garage Days re-revisted last night which is great. so I am guessing they led with the radio single so to speak? Pretty much. 2/3rds of the record is ava...
