Re: New to the board/feedback
That's the problem with physical media these days. I was just talking to a friend who plays in several bands, and they just all just consider their CDs to be 'business cards' anymore.

Re: I don't need another ribbon...or do I?
I just have an m160, and I'm torn between getting another one or getting an m130. I suppose the m130 would offer more options, but the two m160s might be nice for drums overheads. Then again, m260s on s jecklin disc in front of a kit is probably pretty sexy too. Haha, now I remember why I stopped r...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
We caught some killer performances! I’m excited to hear the tracks outside of the room we recorded in. I’m headed up to Austin today to capture a fiddle and some vocals, as well as to get some feedback for the next round of songs to record. Gonna push this damn project forward if it kills me! Also, ...

Re: My two-tone m160
Mine took a spill a while back and it dented the grill. It seems fine, but I’m worried it might be off just because it took the hit. It’s sounds fine I think, I might just be paranoid, and it might not be the little delicate flower I was led to believe it was. That dent tho…

Re: New to the board/feedback
I’ve listened to Nightmare and I think you’re onto something. The sounds are all interesting and it moves and flows in an interesting way. I also like the way you’ve used the stereo field. I would say that it sounds like you’re probably nailing what you’re after. I don’t know much about cassettes, m...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
Well, where'd you stick 'em? We ended up with the m160 on the high hat side, looking down at bell of the ride. It gave us plenty of toms and a good bit of the kick. The hats played better with the acoustic guitar than it did in other positions. The snare had a lot of body without much attack, but t...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
I want to thank everyone again. We set up the mics tonight and I think I’ve got a good sound to work with. We ended up with a three mic setup. It certainly sounds better than my last attempt! Making decisions based on hearing the drums in the context of production was obviously an advantage. We will...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
the more I look at the other wall I wonder if that is just painted wood paneling? are you sure it's concrete? At first look I thought it was cinder block but the pattern is not right. It might be wood paneling but there’s definitely concrete behind it. mid/side and room mics are useful when the roo...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
Before you go nuts with blankets and all that, I'd suggest setting up some mics, do some recording and see how it's sounding. If it's too bright/splashy you'll know, and then you can try some blankets. Actually you could probably tell if it's going to be too splashy just by talking in there. It’s n...

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
I’m not sure if it’s mounted or just leaning against the wall. I suppose we could face the kit in the other direction, if we can’t remove it.

Re: I’m about to record some drums, help me not screw it up
I have been wondering about that cinder block wall and how it might affect an m/s setup in front of the kit. I’ve more or less ruled out the mono overhead/front of kit setup to avoid the phase issues that MSE mentioned. I would much rather have a simpler capture of the kit to work with than phase is...

That’s very interesting, I’ve never heard that before.Snarl 12/8 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 2:38 pmI would just add, be careful not to place any mics equidistant between floor and ceiling or between walls. I've found it really hard to get a good sound there.

Nice! I just listened to the new stuff too. Older and uglier suits you well.
