Re: field recording - gear canvas

read the original post and my first reply. i didn't reply to "i want the best no matter where i am." i replied to "bang-for-my buck hobbyist caliber equipment that gets the job done." i don't think you're gonna get 24/96 for under $200. if you know a way, kindly share. the reason i made the suggesti...

Re: field recording - gear canvas

in my experience the d7 is about as reliable as bob dole's erectile tissue. even less so if it's purchased used. and the new generation atrac sounds fine for field stuff, which is what we're talking about here. the mic pre's in either a cheap md or a cheap dat (which the d7 most assuredly is) are a ...

Re: Bypassing the mackie 1202 mic pre

no dude. go from the pre into the compressor to whatever your recording medium is. use the return from your tape deck or sound card to monitor with the mackie, but don't put your signal through that thing if you don't have to. the reality is the mic pre is the least crap part of the board. the eq's ...

Re: field recording - gear canvas

i'd start with an md (sharps are better- see older threads on this topic.) and a mic like mentioned above. then, if you get into it, check out the sound devices mixpre for an awesome stereo field mixer with nice preamps, limiters, phantom power, etc. those go about $650, but it could wait until furt...

Re: Good cheap synths

hey inverseroom-
it is a k3, but my brother went and stole it from me. i don't think i'll be able to pry it back. they go pretty cheap on ebay, i think? have you been able to do cool stuff with one of those? or are you just a fanatical keyboard collector?

Re: Good cheap synths

another testimonial for the casio cz1000. same synth as the cz101, but closer to "full size keys." i use it regularly, and was getting some great stuff the other day running it through a big muff. however, what you may actually be talking about is a good midi controller. and reason, or something lik...

Re: Live Sound Wireless Lavalier?

if braless, silk shirted women are the road to hell, sign me up. rhythym- most of the film production type lavs are omni afaik (though i defer to dave on this shit,) but you can find cards as well. omni is obviously a nightmare for a pa type application. i'm pretty sure the senheiser me-2 (?) can co...

that's what i was thinking. note the hartford whalers shirt on beermaster-flash. there's a certain kind of drunken idiocy that really doesn't exist outside of new england. except maybe in new zealand.

Re: Dealings with tapetape.com...

the sense i get is that it's one dude, and he operates out of his basement or somehing. when you get his voicemail, it names 2 different companies, which is a sign of sketchiness. (like the business isn't legit enough to have its own phone line?) the prices are good, and i've had pretty good luck, b...

Re: Night Ranger vs. Triumph vs. Zebra vs. Journey vs. ...

i'd like to posit that journey do not deserve to have their name dragged through the mire associated with the other "artists" on that list. they did their thing, they could play, steve perry does a great white sam cooke, neil schaun (sp?) shredded, and they wrote some alright choons. just my 2c.
