Re: Album Sheen - WTF? Why Doesn't My Music Sound Like That?

uh, I think this is the answer to the question... "why doesn't my music sound like Hysteria by Def Leppard" In other words, the mystery: Why do all my favorite albums and all those other bands besides mine have that nice album sheen and sharp sound on their music and my music sounds all muddy and fl...

playing His Name is Alive's rather lovely Stars on ESP record

lots of hard panned drums coming in one speaker

it's a sound I really like, but I think takes a lot of guts to pull off

can sound very off balance otherwise

Waking Up by Evan Dando, recorded by John Brion... I think Chris Barkow guitars a lot on there and is possibly doing the sick backing vocals on there really bare, like two or three claps, very sloppy, but counterpoint the piano line bascially the song would be two notes if it didn't have the claps, ...

blockfish definitely imparts something on the incoming signal beyond level change. and I heart it. it sure does...but vocals never fail to sound funny (not in a good way) with it. :/ I likes Blockfish a lot, does a nice blasted out room mike Flaming Lips thing thing it holds a bass together okay to...

Re: Anybody heard the new Jim Noir album

I thinks its a great album nice warm sounding :D :D :D his live show is amazing too, really great harmony singing all around and they look like they're having a blast I'm really into how he's used drum machines and computery sounding synth stuff and mixed it with very sixties sounding production to...

I've not heard Ram, but I am listening to McCartney constantly these days, such a great sounding record. Dry dry drums, cracked up vocals, all very first take sounding

I must pick up Ram

Re: Recording Acoustic Guitars

general rule of thumb is, taking the 12th fret as a starting point, for less bass (and boom) aim the mic more towards the head stock, and more for more bass aim nearer the sound hole

uh, is that right?

I'm home recording and have a deep boomy shit voice, I end up EQing the hell out of LDC to get a good vocal sound... recently I started using a 57 really pushed thru a nanocomp, as much gain as possible... it's noisey but it sounds great... I'm not a subtle, emotive, breathy singer, so why bother us...

http://tabs.no/files/thumb3/C_RODS.jpg rods... they don't sound like sticks, they don't sound like brushes... I like them, but I generally don't require agressive drum sounds... I'm in a similar position, I use the above mentioned rods, two heavy blankets in the the kick, a sock wrapped around the ...

Re: The State Of Music

Funny thing is there is so much great music on indie labels and being self released. Majors won't take a chance on something that won't sell bucket loads within a week of beingf released... So while they're busy chasing downloaders, buying up air time, giving each awards and sticking themselves on ...

I find recording double tracked vocals of my own voice is a way of making it sound less like yourself... or so I find....uh.,.. what I mean is I can deal more objectivley with a doubled vocal cause, where as I still wince when I hear my solo'd voice cause in a "God I sound like such a dork" manner.....
