With multiple acoustic instruments the challenge and beauty is the combination of the reverberated sound and the direct tone from the source. The main trouble you will have with multiple stereo mics will be phase correlation & cancellation. If you are stereo micing each instrument you have twice the...

My studio space is a metal pre-fab garage. Approximately 24'x35', 9' walls peaking to 14' or 15', built on a concrete slab. I decided to leave my space as a single large room instead of building out rooms. It's basically a metal carport with metal sides. It went up quickly, but I still had to do so...

Good info. After a session I use archival DVD's for back up. I usually keep a copy if it's a client I work with on a regular basis. I also keep copies on both of my back up drives. I don't do enough projects to warrant anything too pricey. For bigger sessions archival bluray could work too. I mean 1...

I love doing this...transferred vinyl sounds remarkably good. Are you using a separate phono preamp, or just the output of your receiver? I've been transferring a lot of old cassette recordings lately. Sounds like high school. I am using a Stanton T.92 USB turntable. But, NOT using their USB, becau...

I have a PDF of the owners manual. PM me you email and I can send it over. If memory serves the eq can be used during mix down, but you have to have the correct setting and it may only be a stereo out of the mix. Are you trying to run all 4 tracks out to a DAW at once? If so...then I'm sure the eq i...

I wouldn't be opposed to a rack unit, but it would depend on what I can find. There's a 242a on eBay right now for $1,100... you found quite a deal!! Seems like one of these pedals might still be the most bang for my buck, but we'll see. I'm not quite ready to buy yet so I'll be browsing and resear...

What about a rack unit? I have a Sound Workshop 242a and it's completely awesome for this kind is stuff. I use is with a Deltalab Super Time-Line for more slap, both pre and post. Effectrons are awesome for this too. It can be super clean, and somewhat plate-ish if needed, but get dirty and overdriv...

-10 It's the most bland and terrible part of engineering. if I'm the producer, neither will happen. Sure...editing, but if the timing on the drums is that off or the vocals are terribly flat or sharp, it's time to roll tape again. If I'm mixing someone's material and there is no possibility of overd...

Shopping on Amazon $100 to spend
I was gifted $100 to use on Amazon and was looking for any suggestions on useful studio gear ideas. I'll only be spending the $100, no more, so anything over that is a no-go. My thoughts: A-Designs Atty: Super handy for preamp or monitor attenuation. New headphones - My sennheiser hd280's are gettin...

Yeah, too bad about the clock; this is one area where I a)suspect the Behr will potentially suck, and b)think I am over complicating things and should just play through headphones or one keyboard at a time. Yeah. You be able to find an older Behr unit or another brand that was modified by Black Lio...

I have a Presonus Digimax D8 and it's pretty solid for most sources. I use it with my Apollo for extra pres when needed. Not a lot of headroom, but it's got pads...and you should be able to attenuate from your keys anyway. The DI's are decent, pretty clean. One issue when using any ADAT unit with th...

It's been a while, but I used to do a lot of 4 trackery for local bands back in HS, and later used a trusty Tascam 424 mk2, for my demos. Broke it out recently for some wacky overdubs using the tape speed adjustment to distort some vocals. had fun, and I would like to to a project 4 track only again...
