A suggestion - since we can agree that the search function ain't great, and the Google option is much better..would it be possible to change the search function to a pre-formatted Google search? And, maybe it's me (MBP Intel Core duo, Firefox), but most times the TOMB consistently takes longer to lo...

i'm still laughing a day later.
My housemate called down, "What in the world is so funny?" last night.
Yeah. Nice one.

Improvisation - specifically, how would you teach it?

I'm thinking of dusting off my piano instruction sign. I'm billing myself as an alternative to the baby Bach book tutor, and plan to focus on adults who want to play pop and rock, or can read but can't play by ear. Used to do it in Boulder and really got a lot out of the interaction. So, my title pr...

Personally, I'm really gratified to find out how much people here know. This talk of intangibility reminds me of something I read about Professor Longhair's playing.

Yeah, I just use the cord. The mag-safe cord will unplug though, especially in bed.
(My basement is heated only by an oil filled radiator, so it's always chilly down here.)

I didn't buy a laptop for portability per se, just for the price.

Minor Apple rant

I bought a Macbook Pro about 18 months ago. $1650 refurbed direct. About six months later, the optical drive started spitting out discs. I dealt with it until it got too frustrating, considered getting the drive replaced but ultimately ended up getting an external Samsung for about $50. It's a bumme...

Oh. Well, they're both examples of more modern tunes that swing in the Penny Lane style, as opposed to, say, Glenn Miller. I remember showing the guitarist in a band I was in the guitar part from Baby Britain, referencing it to 'It's Getting Better' and the band having a similar discussion to the on...

http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php?t=rview&goto=243384 Some interesting reading here. And I''ve been reading about Tom Oberheim's reissues of his original SEM's. I'm still trying to figure out how on the 4 voice the modules were allocated to the keyboard. But i found a thread elsewhere where...

I didn't mean to disparage that time in my life. It was a huge lucky break for me, and a hell of a lot of fun. It just wasn't the kind of music I would wish to be the final word on me. That's my issue, I realize.

Anyone understand what the hell is goin on musically here?

One of my favorite Metheny/Mays compositions. Specifically, the Mays-composed section running from 5:00 to 6:10 or so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Nhvpf6Qszg Here's what I've got, from the Pat Metheny songbook: These chords are played on the Oberheim. Dbm7 A/Db ı Dbm9 ı F/Db ı Bbm...

Any Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus love?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8V1olWt8I0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0u14EE2Z0s&feature=related I can't think of a more fun band to play in...or live album I like better. but I has a question as well...does anyone happen to know what Oberheim Mr. Payne played in the seventies? Edit: Apparently...

I understand that, believe me. And in the context of a rock band that makes even more sense. But as someone who has played acoustic all my life, it's still a big difference. And clubs providing pianos would eliminate any juggernaut-humping. I took the CP80 out on one tour; everyone begged me to leav...

I guess my attitude has been 'think big.' I don't see Talk Talk touring with a Motif or whatever, or Tom Waits playing Tom Traubert's Blues on a Roland. Of course it all depends on what you're trying to do. But digital piano on stage when I'm seeing a band has always said to me 'that's good enough f...
