+3 for Carl Saff. He does great work for ridiculously affordable rates. He's done quite a bit of the stuff that's coming out of my studio lately.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here and put in a vote for the Mackies. The KRKs are flattering, but not flat. They have a bump somewhere down low and hyped high mids. The Mackies feel more flat to me. I've had good luck with them and I wouldn't describe them as sounded smeared. I haven't ...

You need to consolidate all the files to the same start point. An easy way to do this is to drop a marker at the beginning of your first audio file and then tab to it, shift tab into each track, tab to the end of the regions, and go to edit>consolidate regions. This will rewrite new audio files that...

Sorry I didn't see this response for awhile. The band would like to work here in St. Louis, but someone else is footing the bill, so ultimately it is up to him. He has a few studios in mind if my place doesn't work out. That said, since you're so close, I'd love to check the place out sometime. I go...

The Beyer re-ribbon is basically a replacement of all the guts from what I understand. I'd like to keep the vintage mojo and only replace the ribbon.

I have an M160 that needs a re-ribbon and Enak never returned my emails. I'm not sure if it's just an isolated incident or not. That said, I'm looking for a place to do it, so I'd like to hear some responses as well.

I rather enjoy my old library card catalog. I have a few mics that are too big to go in it, but it's a pretty great solution. You can find them on ebay from time to time.

Looking for 2" machine in St. Louis

Hello, I'm looking to borrow, rent, or perhaps even buy a 2" machine for a potential project I have coming up here in St. Louis. Not having a 2" is probably a deal-breaker and I know it's a shot in the dark, but I thought I'd put the word out anyway.

We've had our fair share of problems with the Furman system here at the studio, but most of the time it has proven to be poor cable crimping skills. The strain relief is very important in RJ45 connectors or the cable will sometimes actually break. We're professional crimpers now, but we've still had...

Sometimes humor and the internet just don't work. I certainly didn't mean anything disparaging by the joke.

I don't think most bands will want to turn up the "Gai". If you're recording Pansy Division, this is the perfect preamp.

Tascam MS-16 problem

I was calibrating my MS-16 tonight and must've done something bad. I'm not sure how, why, or exactly what happened. I blew a couple fuses which according to the manual are for the Regulated plus/minus 15 V Rec/Rep Amp. Upon popping some new fuses in, I'm seeing signal on the input of channel three w...
