If there's any message in my rant, it's to start with any of the quality microphones mentioned here, and then add a variety of others. Even those you would not think of as appropriate. You never know what you're going to face. Right now I carry, and have used, almost everything I own doing VO's. An...

Re: Observation: Choosing a DAW is confusing

After about a year of saving money, doing research on the TOMB and others like it, and using all the information at my disposal to find the best option to suit my needs, I must say that I'm still pretty confused when it comes to choosing DAW software. Hardware was much easier. I got a Fireface 800,...

Also, I havn't heard a real definitive account of how many plays a tape will last after baking, but I've heard tell of people baking multiple times and it working. I don't think there is an answer. They are guaranteed to go back to a sticky state, so the common practice is to bake and transfer righ...

First of all, you are not damaging your tapes. Though you might want to use an applicator made of something other than cotton. A similiar method is catching on among archivist. Marie O?Connell even came up with a way to provide a continual drip to the tape automatically. You can find specifics here ...

Heads up!! The following story is from personal experience. I should add another watch out to Lunatics post. The connection from the transfomer is not hard wired. We had the connector come loose on one of the two units we have. I suspect that it can happen during shipping. The result is a very weak...

In regard to touching tubes with your bare hands; I'm sure it's ok but I've been told not to more than once. Same as your halogen comparasin. You are not supposed to touch halogen bulbs with your fingers due to oils from your fingers impregnating the glass and leading to a premature bulb failure an...
