Wouldn't you consider the Keely a boutique pedal? I use the Guyatone ST-2 and I think it's excellent... it also has a switch so you can blend it 50% non-compressed signal if you choose. I use it all the time, and it works great for recording. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Effects/produc...

I think most remixed/remastered records are sort of marketing BS, but the one I'd love to see cleaned up is the debut Moby Grape album. The songs are consistently SO GOOD but the record just sounds like ass, especially the drums. I wonder how it actually sounded in the control room. Speaking of them...

BONE RECORDS
Okay, I came across this in a blog: "American Rock and Roll becomes an underground sensation in all Eastern Europe, including USSR and Riga was a Mecca for trading illegal LP's, reel-to-reel tapes and Bone Records (recordings made on x-ray film)..." And I of course said "WTF?" Then I found this: htt...

The bit I find most interesting is the 'good' aspect of labels that are going away. Bands don't get to just be bands anymore. You don't see bands have a chance to grow and mature like when a label is paying. I agree with this... I have a friend that revels in the trouble the labels are having, and ...

My earlier comment about the live performance vs. records was not to dismiss recording at all... Obviously I can't have Sinatra crooning in my ears as I walk to work, but I can have his records. It was just a personal revelation for me: with this current massive glut of recorded music fighting for t...

I had been worrying about where music was gonna go for quite awhile - about the glut of music on the market. I work part-time at a label and you should see the boxes of unopened demos, most will probably never be heard. Then I saw the Stax/Volt Live in Norway dvd, or that video of The Band, and I th...

It's funny that those early Spot produced Husker Du records are singled out for their shittiness, because they sound like butter compared to the early Sony digital of the last two albums... Candy Apple Grey and Warehouse are almost unlistenable today, but I thought they sounded awesome back then! Di...

Justin, You do make good points, and I do know the Tool album was huge among musicians... I just see the strokes record as one of those sea change records - when one era ends and the next begins. Nirvana is obviously the most prime example of this, the Smiths or Oasis in their time as well... and ce...

Okay, though I speak from the throne of tooldom, I reiterate my point: it was the most important American debut album since Appetite. Norah Jones debut outsold it 10/1, but I didn't see anybody dressing up like Norah. The impact is lasting if you look at today's "if everybody's a hipster, than nobod...
