The mods to these include new, fast RF jfets, fast bipolar transistors, Dale RN55 military resistors, MIT multiCap signal capacitors. The bandwidth is raised 3 octaves on the tops, low end is flat to below 20 hz. The DC converter is reworked to allow 55 volts to polarize the capsule, up from 40. Thi...

Forget star quad cables, too much capacitance and too dark. Use AES 110 ohm digital cable for all your analog uses. Mogami makes the "console" wire in this digital version as well as snakes like the analog snakes.

Yes you can. Try the Linear Tech LT1358's in the stereo mix and in the fader amps on both the input modules and master. On the inputs, the 4 coupling caps can be eliminated as the 1358 is a precision device free of high offsets. In the EQ section the OPA2134's will work but I like the LT1352 better.

I've been using the surplus 19 v ac wall wort from All Electronics in LA. It costs $3. It's a 1 1/2 amp job with plenty of extra current for mods. I measured 28 volts DC applied to the regulators, within range of the 78M15/79M15 regulators. I've also replaced those regulators with the 7915/7815 1 1/...

Get out your gold card. The AGSS 19 awg silver stranded cable is $60 per fott in a 3 braid, the solid core 25 awg silver black pearls cable is $40 per foot and is too fragile to use in a mic cable, the AGSS is a much better choice. If you want even better, he has some XLR wired mic cables that run a...

As I rebuild these all the time, here's some info. Replace the .01 uf psu bypass caps with .1 uf mono ceramics, the .01 uf values are small and many opamps will show low level oscillations. I use the National LM6172 opamps for the outputs. These require the use of the output blocking caps, if direct...

I have my place wired with Ray Kimber's fine cable. Solid core wire is supposed to eliminate a form of skin effect that occurs with stranded cables. I find pure silver wire to sound more faithful than any copper wire, solid or stranded. I use both solid core silver and stranded silver, the solid cor...

The better sounding opamp replacement is the Linear Technology LT1357 than the rather dry sounding, over priced BB OPA627. Wider bandwidth opamps tend to not be stable in this layout. There are also a quad MC33079 opamp for the inserts and a dual S08 output opamp. I replaced the quad with either a O...
