2nd the step drill bit. They are great if there is already a hole and you want to enlarge it. I like to use a good bit to make a small hole then enlarge it with the step bit. Its also nice to have a reemer to enlarge holes. I also drill a pilot hole then used the stepped bit. It's worked great for ...

Even with eSATA you still aren't going to get much more than 45 - 60MB/s out of a single disk. Some benchmarks will say higher but real sustained performance of the spinning hunk of metal is what you are limited to. I hope it takes off though so it takes away the possibility of a nameless piece bein...

It's WD, Maxtor/Seagate or Hitachi. All of them. There is no other real major drive provider. And Hitachi is not too terribly common. I can't make myself pay huge markups for a case with a chip on it. Unfortunately the cheap cases never say what they use for electronics. As far as steering away from...

I use the 1 band a lot. It's really handy to have on most of the channels.

Go with 3 or 4 spaces high. 2U can be pretty noisy. Otherwise... good luck. I've all but given up on finding a reasonable small case. I'm looking at working with one of the home theatre PC form factor ones. They are already designed with consideration to noise and cooling in non-optimal installation...

I've got the M-Audio Studiopro 4s as speakers on my goof around computer. Granted these aren't super special but they sound really decent and are cheap and make it enojyable to listen to music while I'm here.

That's one advantage for ITB. I've got one little rack that isn't conducive to drinks. The wireless keyboard on the desk I'm not so worried about.

I couldn't imagine tracking some of the bands I work with without drinks!

That's a fretless Fender Jazz Bass with an MK012 right up on the neck joint and a little DI blended in.

What does it do and where does it work best? Well, Victor Tiscareno hasn?t been willing to discuss too many details. But passing electrical signals through the magnetic field with the action of the embedded (you can?t see them) components apparently removes something undesirable from the AC or audi...

I've had a few different people get done with overdubs and then I later hear them talking abotu how part what they did sucked because they didn't hear some other part well; the guitars weren't loud enough, or something to that effect. I always make sure we go through a listen first and ask after eac...

The most direct is to record a little. Play it back. Make a change. Record a little.... I've got one of those Frontier Tranzports and that REALLY helps in this phase. Another neat tip I picked up from here on tape op is to put a really long delay on the master bus. Play a little then listen for the ...

Just an FYI I've replaced three or four D2's over the past year or so (I'm a mac/pc tech). I don't trust the actual drive mechanism (IBM/Hitachi), so if you do use one I'd recommend for backup only. I like the Seagate's but don't think they offer a FW800 product. If you are serious about your music...

Watt = Volts * Amps (roughly) So you can figure out all the missing pieces there. Amps is what you are really concerened about. When we do installation of large computer systems we follow an rule of 80%. So from a 15A circuit we will only go up to 12A, a 20A we take to 16A and so on. We've found tha...

A Telecaster with:
  • * The option of flipping on a humbucker type sound in the bridge.
    * A tremolo that didn't make it look goofy and that when the bar was removed it locked like a fixed bridge..
    * A zero fret.
