It resonates, still. Heheh - true dat! Sorry 'bout that last e-buy. Why can't ppl just be up front about their wares? Stupid! OT: Still trying to find purpose for my 664. It's okay, just no real  . Am kinda grinnin' over my 630 tho. Almost has a ribbon warmth/fuzz about it. Different a...

Mane1234: Just PM'd you. radmike: Terminals 1 & 4 on the back are your main output; 1 is the positive (phase). Strap terminals 2 & 3 for 600 Ohm impedance OR strap terminals 1 & 2 AND terminals 3 & 4 for 150 Ohm impedance (600 Ohm is most likely preferred). HTH. Great thread thus far, guys! Who else...

Altec 'Green Face' users unite: Most/Least Favorite Model(s)

Curious to know who has/had any Altec 'green face' rack gear, had a sweet/bitter reationship with them and would they give up/go back to it? Me? I'm quite novice of them, but I have my soft spots due to their cool looks and modular designs. I've only experience with two pre models: the 1628A and the...

Yeah, always a gamble. Your locale probably doesn't help much either ("so I burned you...come and get me!"). I've learned to never buy a Shure SM57 from evilBay, although they DID work in my favor regarding counterfeit goods...just a major PITA! Always best to know the goods b4 bidding (past failure...

But I just had to laugh

Wow, that's pretty knarley, vvv! But, ya gotta wonder what the BoD at EV were thinking when they designed this thing: "It needs to provoke sexual arousal for both the performer and the audience. What would Marilyn Monroe want in a microphone? Or Connie Francis...Annette Funicello...Moms Mabellie (ro...

600 Ohm resistor . . .for preload??

Confusion setting in here - Okay...disregard (didn't fully read your loading resistor explaination at first - my bad, sorry). On a side note: Just took on a 1592B with 'maintainence issues' (I've now got a soft spot for these ol' Altec 'green faces'). An entire morning on it & is now healthy for ser...

The Les Paul Recording. Quite the bomb far as Gibson sales were concerned. Bad timing for ol' Les I guess. . . or just limited applications for the beast (high fidelity recording). Bass in a DI situation would benefit, and what with today's plug in simulators why not guitars too? Never live....no no...

Universal Audio tells it like it is...

Out of simply building my knowledge for the subjuct, I just found this data at the Universal Audio website. This looks pretty complete/thorough:

The omni mid mic idea is interesting...I gots some experimenting to do :)

Ahhh, OK. I was thinking the opposite in terms of cable losses, and I had the belief that Low-Z mics generally produced a cleaner signal. Understand that current technologies have this all sussed out, but we all loves our vintage gear, right. Best to fully know how to maximize what the old school ki...

My order's in with Kim. Thanks for bringing this forth, Larry!! Note that I'd be interested in getting a T-Shirt as well. Possibly a TapeOp edition of the poster as well if it differs significantly from Kim's offering.

When is a Hi-Z microphone desireable?

If you typically want to go up in impedance along the signal chain from source to output, outside of physical Z 'balancing' or 'matching', why would you want to plug a Hi-Z mic into, say a Hi-Z input of a guitar amp, PA or recording preamp/interface? Given proper XLR>TR(S) connections, why not just ...

Hot Dang - I forgot all about OakTree!! Big Thanks :D Sooo.... what has you perked up over the EV 668? I landed 3 'unknown condition' 664s that I'm tryin' to find a best use for. Just no real jaw dropping wow factor about these. . . until my boom stand loses out over the sheer weight of these things...

This is already a sad year for music

Duck Dunn, Levon Helm, Ester Waters, Whitney Houston, Dick Clark (afterall he DID bring RnR into the living rooms of America ya know), Davey Jones (captalized on an American frenzy with British Pop) and now I learn of Jim Marshall. Fears me to think who'll be next :(
