I had the Yamaha HS50's, the 5" ones. I thought they were great when I got them, and they are very good. But they just didn't cut it for me in the low end, I don't have a sub either. So I upgraded to the HS80's with the 8" and they are a step up for sure. They make the HS50's sound inferior overall....

I've been in a big 421-on-kick phase for a while now. When I'm looking for a firm, punchy, unbloated, easily sculpt-able kick sound, it's been my first stop for the past few months. It also tends to pair well with a fairly close 'outside kick' LDC. Plus, it's more fun to add sweet low-end to a 421 ...

It's funny, I'd have thought that more folks here would cook their own food. DIY is DIY is DIY. I myself: Cook a lot, home record, brew my own beer, grow my own vegetables and 'vegetables...', and a lot of other things that other people go out and buy. In fact I'm planning on moving to Denver for a ...

Yamaha is a weird company. Their engineering is a little bizarre. Like I had their standalone hard disc recorder, the AW16. Had 16 tracks, 8 recordable at one time. So, they make the damn box with 2 XLR ins and the rest TRS. Why only 2 XLRS???? Talk about inconvenient. They always limit their ins an...

Yeah, I'm kindof leaning toward the 7000's (ribbon) or the 8000's (tube) for that reason. I've seen positive reviews on both. Any thoughts on which would be more applicable to my situation? I own both. The 7000 has a less 'wooly' sound than say, a Nady RSM2 or TO group buy ribbon, also higher outpu...

I've been switching between a dbx 163x and a symetrix CL150. Both can do some cool stuff.

For "cheap" stands I've had good luck with Hercules stuff. Heavier duty than your typical 'stage' mike stand, and their clutches actually hold really well.
