FS: Delays, comp, reverb, pedals

These will be going to everyone's favorite auction site in a few days if I don't get any buyers: Symetrix 525 compressor/gate --- exc. condition, one knob doesn't fit on a pot correctly, not a big deal Delta Lab Effectron 1024 digital delay --- a little rack rash, but otherwise excellent...sounds/wo...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

The way I see it, if digital recording had become available in say, 1968, how many of our beloved artists would have used PT? I bet most would at least try digital, if not convert wholy. The Beatles probably would have done wonderful things with computers. Lots of crap is being made on computers but...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

Hopefully, tape will become like guitar amp tubes...I mean, vacuum tube technology is ancient (just like magnetic tape) compared to "state of the art" solid-state tech but most enthusiasts prefer the sound of analog/tubes. There obviously is a market for tape and people have been willing to pay a hi...

Re: Annoying Sounds

Squeaky brakes Thumping ghetto subwoofers at 3am Some no-job loser's extremely loud shitty metal/punk music at the stoplight Phones ringing People talking loudly on the phone The click-clack of a computer keyboard Someone obliviously banging away on an out-of-tune guitar Your local Top 40 cover band...

Re: pad the cymbals?

I put a 2 inch square of duct tape on my ride cymbal and it cut out some of the "ring." It's a good technique if you want to deaden the cymbal sound...just adjust to taste.

Re: mandolin

"Kentucky" mandolins are supposed to be nice, really any eBay special will do you just fine. I've been looking at old Kay, Silvertone, and Harmony mandos for awhile. They seem to go for under $100 sometimes.

Minimalist micing thoughts

Last night I went on the quest for a "perfect" drum sound. I set up an ATM25 inside the kick, SM57 on the snare, two Oktava 012 overheads, and a SP B1 out in front of the kick. The first thing I did was turn the 57 off. Next, I recorded a few things and found myself listening to just one overhead an...

Tascam 388 crackles

Hi there, I just came into possession of a Tascam 388 with under 40hrs of use. However, there is some nasty crackling, fizzing noise coming from the stereo bus. I can hear it through headphones and the monitor outs which are connected to my speakers. It sounds like an old amp that needs a cap job. I...

Tape primer (first timer)

Well, I just picked up my first analog recording machine: a pristine Tascam 388 with under 40 hrs on it. My first immediate problem is what the hell do I do with all of these RCA/phono jacks on the back? Everything I have uses 1/4" plugs...do I just need to run to Radio Shack and get some adapters o...

Re: Recording piano in university practice room CREATIVE

I think I could manage to get mics and stands into the room without anyone getting suspicious. It is the music department after all! I have SM57s, MC012's, SP B1's, etc, that I could use. DATs look pretty expensive...I think a minidisc would be cheaper. Would it be worth it to try to bring along an ...

Recording piano in university practice room CREATIVE

First off, I want to say that there is a ton of great info here. Now, my uni just built this fancy-ass new building with lots of nice piano practice rooms that are open to students like me. Since I can't fit a piano where I live and can't stand any form of sampled/digital piano, I face a dilema -- h...
