I don't own shit. Have pity on me.
But the Electro Harmonix pre looks like it might be the next gear purchase once cash is obtained.

Check out Alan Douches at West West Side Music in NJ. He does excellent work, and was even featured in TapeOP!

Re: Most ANNOYING drum sound?
The sound Jeff Lynne got on the Tom Petty stuff he did (Into the Great Wide Open, etc.) and the new Beatles stuff he did for Anthology always grated on me. It just sounds so metronomic and overdone somehow. I think Lynne's a talented fellow, but I just never dug his productions of others much. Also ...

Slidewinder by J.B. Re: Re-recording a great (or not so great) album
if you can get hold of the Glyn Johns mixes of Get Back (the original title and running sequence of Let It Be) I think you'd probably dig it. I haven't heard Let It Be Naked, but I heard Get Back (it is only available on a bootleg CD) years ago and thought it was great. I don't endorse bootlegs, but...

Re: Books on recording?
I got a lot of help from The Mixing Engineer's Handbook. Also the TapeOp book. But if you don't know anything about mixing, the Handbook can help you start thinking in frequencies for EQ. There are a couple of very simple charts denoting where in the frequecy ranges different instruments fall that I...

Re: Tom Dowd documentary on Sundance Channel
Oh yes baby! That movie was amazing. It was very cool to see somebody who is totally THE MAN! I never saw any doubt in him, like he knew exactly what he was put on the planet to do. And a wonderful human being to boot. Something to aspire to as a person, not just an engineer/producer.

Yeah, it was great. Good to meet all you guys and to see you again Ubertar. Happy Birthday too! Is anyone still interested in the tape opper gig night at Freddy's? I'm looking at booking some more stuff after a very successful show on Friday. Check them out at www.freddysbackroom.com.
